Hood Adjustment again.

I give up I tried do just what was said in the other threads and it moved the whole hood back but still was raised up. I had to loosen the hood bolts to move it forward so it would close again. I bought new aftermarket hinges when I had it painted so it has been almost 5 years. What is the best replacement hinge that will work and or easily adjusted. I have been looking at billet hinges but not sure what the differences are. Thanks!

The best were some repro hinges made by GM in the early 2000s for the 67-72 model years. I don't have P/Ns, and I don't know if they're still available, but that's what I went to. I bought them back then, and saved them. I put them on about 5 years ago, and I was amazed.
When I bought my '68 C/10 Stepside in 1973, after he showed me the engine under the hood, the PO took out a clean white T-shirt and lovingly pressed his elbow down to lower the rear hood on each side. For about 45 years that was how I figured it was done. Then a visiting mechanic buddy, after I told him about having the factory repop hinges, said, ''Break 'em out.'' And in less than a hour, my hood came out level in the back, and I didn't have to slam the hood down to close it. I can close it as easy as a door.

They make some aftermarket ones that attach to the firewall and hood. They look nice. I’m not sure how well they work, or how easy they are to install. I need something better also.

I think "moved the whole hood back but still was raised up" is an indication you had the wrong bolts loose when you made the adjustment. The most common adjustment people want to do is to simply lower the back of the hood so it is even with the fenders. Is that what you are trying to accomplish? Making that adjustment does not move the hood back, it only moves the hood down.

Hood adjustment 411:
Make sure you don't have fender-to-hood rubber bumpers that are hard, they should be soft and pliable.
Install hinge bolts and close hood slowly, being careful hood does not hit cowl when closing.
If it hits the cowl that means it needs to be adjusted forward. Loosen bolts 4 and 5 and pull hood forward some and tighten bolts. Re-test.
If it shuts well but rear of hood is raised, it needs to be adjusted down. Open hood all the way and loosen bolts 1 and 2. Loosen 3 just a little bit. Push up on the hood at the front in the latch pin area, and while holding it up, tighten bolts 1 and 2. Re-test. If good, open hood and tighten bolt 3.

Option to have oem rebuilt and refinished. Be sure hinges are well lubed. I can only add the hood's cross front edge is approx. Flush with the hinges front edge, on at least 71 and 72 models.
