Re: My 72 gmc 4x4

Great, it worked. One quick question. There is as asterisk next to the transmission designation, does anyone know why? The truck has a 4 speed that looks like it was done pretty well. The previous owner said it had the 4 speed in it when he bought it and judging by the build up of grime I would be apt to believe that. The guy he bought it from said the vehicle was a county vehicle of some sort. I thought that maybe the dealer from which it was purchased had done the work; 4 speed, clearance lights, which the county may have wanted. The lights aren't factory but they do seem to be era correct. I am most curious about the transmission though. Cheers.

4x4 and M49 on the SPID is definitely a TH350 automatic. I think that line in your SPID just has some typos

Re: My 72 gmc 4x4

She is full of rust. There was a hole in the driver side floor board you could put your hand through. I fixed that with a new floor pan and inner and outer rockers. It had some really bad body work done at some time and the bondo has actually fallen off. There is still a lot to do, it has rust in all the usual spots and I think the windshield is rusting out because it leeks on both passenger and driver side. I was hoping to do an LS swap this summer but we will see. Thanks

Re: My 72 gmc 4x4

Ah rust...I'm there, one patch panel at a time...must be an Ocrhe thing. Here's a few before and after shots of work done a couple weeks ago. I had the windshield pinch fixed right after I bought it to prevent more water pouring in on my feet/floor. At the moment, she's water tight :-)

Re: My 72 gmc 4x4

That looks like constantly wet boots driving that rig. Mine had a hole right where you would put your right heel as you get in. I think being in Montana its whole life and snowy boots for 40 winters put the hurt on the floor pan. Good looking rig you got there.

Re: My 72 gmc 4x4

Hey bigdav160, have you ever seen asterisk on other build sheets, trucks or otherwise? It would be cool to know what it means when they put an asterisk. I went over everything else on the sheet and they are all accounted for and correct. Im just curious. Cheers

Re: My 72 gmc 4x4

Sooo, does it have an automatic or manual? Mine has the 4 speed and the column was changed as well. It seems like someone may have done a restoration at some point. There are runs in the paint and there is custom pinstriping. Maybe at that point they changed the tranny.
Oh, I just saw the pics, you have the automatic, nevermind

I love the stance. What size tires do you have on there? Welcome to the site and congrats!

Re: My 72 gmc 4x4

33x10.5R15 They were on there when I bought it. Only thing I have done is replace the driverside floorpan and a little tune up but otherwise she is the way I found her. The rims and skins were like brand new so I figured that was close to a 1k bucks right there. I don't think it has any lift but I would like it to be just a little taller and run 35's. I went try to buy a spare of the same tire but they have been discontinued appearently. BFG Mudterrains. I never really liked their AT's but I thought the MT's were the kind. I guess I will have to buy 5 new style MT's when these get bald. I don't drive it to much, just hunting and weekends usually
