So the motor I had in the truck had some SERIOUS blow back issues. I tore it down and found three broken top rings and a lobe on the cam was almost rounded off.
Before Goodguys I yanked the whole frontend and redid the firewall. It was painted and black and bugged the hell out of me. I used some custom mix rattle cans from the local paint store and it worked PERFECT!!!
I then tossed in a temporary vortec headed SBC just to get me there.
The old motor is getting an internal makeover. Its still going to "look" like the factory 283... but its going to be healthy :-) MUHAHAHAHA

I also had to do a little rust repair while the frontend was off... the lower cowl had a big hole in it. Top Banana hooked me up with the right part.

As for the rest of the truck... When the motor goes back in its getting a 700R4 and powersteering. A long with a CPP rear swaybar. I actually picked up the Steering box and Pump from Richards in Denton, NC this past Saturday. Other than that... Im going to lower the seat a little to give the Jewels a little extra room to breath :-)
love the stance and that you left the top of the cab alone.im really thinking about the 7 drop for the back of mine but the fronts gonna have to come up ( so i can get out of my drive way) youre truck is *****in

Re: Buttercup '66

Its been awhile. I havent messed with the truck alot. I destroyed the 700R4 behind the little 283... So I have been working on a T56 upgrade. I just about have all the parts for the whole deal and after this week I will have all of them.

I spent time this weekend doing a little odds and ends. I have a serious ground issue that I hope I tracked down with the tail light harness. Some chipmunk decided to try and wire a trailer harness to it. BAD IDEA! Ive attached pics of the wire nutted wonder!

Re: Buttercup '66

Yesterday I worked on making the perfect steering wheel! Based on the Astronaut's (John "The Wiz" Glenn) original idea.... I found a wheel with a 15" outer ring so I took the center of a 66 and got the ball rolling! Its going to be killer!

Re: Buttercup '66

Looking good! The steering wheel idea wasn't original with me though, I saw it in a wheel resto how-to book. Get that six speed in, we need rolling burnout shots!

Looking forward to a shifter relocation how-to, hint hint.

Truck looks great! Glad to see you are running drop springs and spindles up front without any issues...the spindles and discs are next on my list.

Re: Buttercup '66

Lookin good! You might have to notch the crossmember and drop your "283" down so it clears your floor.

Re: Buttercup '66

Thats actually pretty good info. I guess I need to purchase an angle finder and get started. Lowering the engine down doesnt seem to be a good idea with pancaking the crossmember. Seems like oil pan clearance will be an issue. A high tranny hump might not be a bad idea. I could sell the low hump mat I just installed. Does anyone sell a high hump?

Great looking truck....always glad to see more carolina truckers here. What does your buddy charge to dyno an engine? Ive got a big block that Id like to dyno when I pick it up in a few weeks. Figured it'd be easier to tune on the dyno

Re: Buttercup '66

Did you use the Keisler T56 relocation kit? I see they're now priced at $400. I have an Aftermarket T56 to put in my 66 but for $400 I'llleave the shifter wherever it comes thru. Does anybody else make a more reasonably priced relocation kit?

Awesome build on the truck !!!

Re: Buttercup '66

Mine is the New style Keisler kit... they are the only ones that make the relocation kit. Pricey... Im deadset on a Bench seat so there is no way around it.
