got the new air cleaner on today
Went from the po's chrome one to the original stuff...much better

Looks good! I'm wanting to do this also. Presently have a 80's style. While somewhat factory looking I still like the original style better. Any problems with the fuel inlet on that Edelbrock carb.? I had to dimple my 80's one with a ball pein hammer.

No, none at all. It looks original, but alot of it wanst used, the tube on the carb spacer is taped off, basically there for looks I guess. But it functions as an air cleaner and looks way better

Just like God intended it. Isn't your paper element a little tall though? Having it open will defeat the function of the heat stove, pipe, and thermac valve.
Unless you're going for the "flip the air cleaner lid on your dad's 2bbl 350" sound. :-)
