Rust Repair
Did some rust repair today. Figured I would post up pics and share my shady body work skills.
Cut out the bad spots last nite so I could clean up underneath and hit everything with POR15 and it could dry over nite. I really should have replaced whole cab corner from door back because there was alot of rust on the back side and metal was kinda thin, but that was way more more then I wanted to tackle at this point in time. Cleaned inside the best I could and caked on the POR15.

Re: Rust Repair
Got up at 6 am to try to beat the 105 degree weather. Cut out new patch panels and got them to fit best I could.

Re: Rust Repair
Then it got kinda sketchy. I just have a cheapy Northern Tools flux core 2 setting welder. First time Ive used it on sheet metal. It did ok, but took alot of grinding to clean everything up. Metal was really from rust on the back side on drivers side and it just kept blowing through. You can see alot of the holes in first pic. Took some work but I got them all filled.
Drivers Passenger side went way better.

Re: Rust Repair
Sanded alot, then shot some primer. Sanded more then caked on the body filler to hide all my sloppy welding.

Re: Rust Repair
Heres final product with some high fill and just some flat black for now. Next week truck will get bedliner on the lower rockers and fender flares. Came out ok. Could use another round of sanding and filler but the bed liner will hide all the imperfections. Ought to last a few years. I will add pictures next week of the bed liner painting too.

Re: Rust Repair
I wouldn't call it shady, I'd call it done right. You cut out the old stuff, cut a replacement panel to fit, welded it in and ground down, body worked, same as body shops man good work.
