Security Measures

Everyone always tells me that the 67-72 chevy trucks are stolen alot, mainly because they are easy to get into. I was wondering if anybody has any good tips on vehicle security other than keep it in the garage. People have told me put in a kill switch, regular alarm, or even gps. Thanks

Do what ever makes you feel better. The truth of the matter is if someone decides your truck is the one they want, they are only limited by their own imagination.

I worked as a tow truck driver for nearly a year and there are a million and one ways to steal a truck.

I am using a paging alarm, hiding as much of my stereo as possible and have a whole mess of home owners insurance. I keep it locked and I only park on the street on days I go to work.

My truck is loud, so anyone in my neighborhood knows when my truck is started. But if "Bob's Towing" pulled up and took it, nobody would even flinch.

If I could just get my new door locks in that I have keys for, that would help me a lot.

Lojack and a brake lock. Anything else that will slow a thief down will make them think twice before they take it. Just remember though, if a theif wants it bad enough they will still take it. Lojack is the way to get it back and allows the police to track it.

I agree, if a thief wants it he will get it, but a thief usually wants easy prey, so make it as difficult as you can. Fuel cut off, battery disconnect, lojack, all of these things take the "easy" out of taking your truck. Alarms also work, but how many times have you heard an alarm going off and ignored it. And a lot of thieves work at alarm shops and know the systems. I've also heard of cops unknowingly assisting a thief. So nothing is fool proof. Just make it a hard mark.

i used line lock. i never new if it would work and after a while i felt stupid putting it on then i woke up to the sound of my truck doing a break stand in front of my house at 3 in the morning. needless to say i kept my truck and he woke up in the emergency room

I used to run my ignition switch hot wire thru a toggle switch on the left side of the steering wheel under the dash. when I would park it, I would flip the power off to the igition switch. even if they tried to plug in a new switch, they had no power.
Then I would also always turn my wheels all the way left or right (I wish the wheel locked) and also fully engage the parking brake...
as said above, if they want it they will get it,. I just wanted them to get the car next to mine because it was easier to jump, pull or tow away...

fuel pump shut off,,switch in between key and starter,,hidden well..big really loud alarm,,somthing to wake up the nieghbors a block away..but if they really want it,,they will get it...lojack can at least help the police find it faster...rattle snake under the front seat,,or just the rattled tide up under the seat..i know if i was stealing something,,and was driving off,,and i heard a rattler under the seat,,id leave truck,,probably rolling,,but it would be there..lol

Agree with everyone - basically, it's about making it not worth the work or risk.

I have a kill switch under the hood with a removeable key.

I agree with everything above, I am liking the line lock idea! Anyway, switch your truck over to an electric fuel pump and have a toggle switch somewhere other than on or near the dash to turn it off. If they get it started, they will get a block before it runs out of gas and once it's moved, they are drawing attention to themselves and and bolt.

This in addition to the other measures should be enough. But, if you left the truck a rusty POS, cracked windshield, bald tires, oil stained seats and a wiring mess under the dash, I'm sure this would a decent deterrent as well.

Iremember hearing about someone hooking a switched 12 volt coil in some manner to their door handle. hahaha What shock.Wouldn't that keep em' guessing. If any one knows how to do this let us know.

Those are all good ideas. I was wondering has a the Grant sterring wheel setup where you can remove the whole steering wheel.

I was thinking about getting this for my truck, both for security measures and for storage purposes. I have to figure out a way to safeguard my truck for the meet in July, there will be a lot of shady characters mulling about.

I have a line-lock laying aroung that I thought about using as a theft deterrent, but I'm not quite sure how they work electrically. Do they have to have a continuous 12v source to keep the valve closed and the brakes locked?...or once the valve is closed and you take away the 12v source, will it open??

If it does need a continuous 12v source to stay closed, won't that run down the battery??

The line lock instructions don't say too much except not to use it as a parking brake.

I also think that the more hoops you have to make a thief hop through to steal your ride, the less likely it is to happen.
