What brand 15 inch tires are you running

Hey all I currently am running 275/60-15 cooper cobra tires on my 8 inch wide wheels. I am in need of another set. I thought about a smaller size on the front but keeping the height close to the 275/60 in the rear I even thought about trying a bit wider in the rear but there are not too many selections in the 15 inch wheel. What is everybody running? I thought about the toyo proxy they have the 275/60-15 and have heard good things. I even thought about a drag radial maybe even on all 4 corners?
Oh well just some thoughts
Thanks
Dave

Re: What brand 15 inch tires are you running

You can never go wrong with BFG T/A Radials. I've always got good wear out of them and they're reasonably priced. They're also just a good looking tire. The Toyo tires are what my dad calls lightning bolt tires. The sidewalls have alot of design on them. It makes them kind of tough to detail and they look modernized. The T/A's have a nice, smooth sidewall design and they "baloon" out to give a classic look.

Re: What brand 15 inch tires are you running

Thanks Matt, how do they work in the rain. I dont usually drive in the rain but you always have the chance...What type of wear do you normally get. This is not my DD but I do like to get it out when I can (even today)
I assume these stick pretty good even cornering during normal\agressive driving?
again thanks
Dave
edit , those were some I was looking at...

Re: What brand 15 inch tires are you running

Dave, they work very well in the rain. They are a nice sticky tire for aggressive driving. They're S speed rated for up to 112mph, if you ever felt a need to go that fast.

As far as wear, most I've had didn't last long enough due to my right shoes seem to have more weight than my left. The set I put on my 86, however, had app. 15,000 miles ans still looked new when I sold it.

Re: What brand 15 inch tires are you running

I had BFG Radial T/A's on my white '68 and really liked them (275/60/15 all the way around). Now on my new air-ride equipped truck I went with a skinnier size (255/60/15) on the front to help alleviate any hydroplaning, which I encountered a couple times having the 275's on the front.

Re: What brand 15 inch tires are you running

I have had the BFG T/A's on my truck for a while now and love them. They wear very slow and they stick very good.

Couldn't ask for a better tire for our trucks really. When I change sizes I will have to find something else, and that's a shame.

I have BFG 245/60R15 all around on my '69. Long tred life and stick to the road pretty darn good. No complaints.

Re: What brand 15 inch tires are you running

I haven't had any on my 68 ttruck , but I did run BFG's T/A radials on my Nova. The fronts lasted awhile didn't keep track of how many miles I had on them. The rears , they were left behind me a few times.
I have heard good things about yokohama's.

Jim, looks like you are in the minority not that that is a bad thing but how do you like them? Again I am just trying to get all angles. I have like Cooper before but am ready for a change. And my right foot is also heavy at times...
We have a pepboys here so maybe I will check them out.

Dave,
I'm very happy with them. This is the second truck I have used these exact tires on. They handle great! I think they may have been about $59 each

I run the 275/60R15 Toyo lightning bolt tires on my truck too. We have lot's of rain right now and they're just as good as any other tire I've ever had, but I don't drive any winding roads so I don't know about the tire gription from personal experience.

I'm also running T/A's on mine, with 245-60's up front and 275-60's out back. I don't drive it in the rain very often (wiper linkage took a dump) but they will spin on wet pavement with enough action on the loud pedal.

Without Anti-Lock, I don't trust any of these trucks to behave predictably on wet pavement. Just remember "Steer in the direction of the skid".......and hold on for a quickly changing ride.

Re: What brand 15 inch tires are you running

I am running Mastercraft Avengers (made by Cooper so I am told) 275/60 x15 on all four corners. I had these tires on my 96 for about 30,000 miles before I swapped them to the 70. They still have a lot of miles/time left on them. They grip well in the rain (we get lots down here) as well as being quiet and having good dry roads handling. I seem to average about 60,000 - 70,000 with these on our cars, but unfortunately on the truck(s) the right rear tends to get excessive wear patterns.
