Re: Anybody have a vehicle lift at home?

Mr turner I don't have a actual picture of my lift with me but here is a link to the one I have..http://www.gregsmithequipment.com/At...IDE-EXTRA-TALL....I wanted the extra width so I could back my trailer thru it to unload "future projects" and the extra height so I could walk under it when lifted

And here are shots of my underside and over-the-hood 400W MH aux lights for the over 50 gang. Sorry, those sideways pics piss me off too.

This is the one I have. Installed it myself with the help of a couple friends to stand up the posts.

Re: Anybody have a vehicle lift at home?

I have a 9000lb 2 post. I mainly work on lowered car, mostly corvettes. If I could do it again... 4 post all the way. You can adjust your suspension loaded, you can just drive on and do most of your work, unless you are pulling tires, rims. I hate having to align cars to get the swing of the arms right, or pull forward swing front under, pull backward swing back under, then pull back to the middle. Hate it. My buddies learned from my mistake, and bought a 4 post, moveable. They roll it outside, and pressure wash the bottom of their cars, clean and such, then roll it inside and put the car back on it. It's perfect.

Re: Anybody have a vehicle lift at home?

Mine is a 6000 pound maxjax. I love it. When I don't need it, I can pull 5 bolts out of each column, and roll it in the corner. It only lifts 48", but with the pad extensions on, it's the perfect hight to roll around on a creeper seat.

Re: Anybody have a vehicle lift at home?

I have a 4-post lift mainly so that I can roll it around since my projects require a bit of floor space flexibility.

Re: Anybody have a vehicle lift at home?

We have (3) in our back yard shop. One extra wide 7K 4 post Backyard Buddy, one 10K 2 post and a 10K 4 post.

Go with the biggest 4 post you can get and save for the center jacks!

Re: Anybody have a vehicle lift at home?

Have the same lift any body that has ceiling height should have one the are very reasonable to buy now mine was delivered (800mile) and installed for under $4000. Sure makes a guy more enthusiastic when its so much easier.

Re: Anybody have a vehicle lift at home?

Any lift is better than no lift...I bought a Backyard Buddy lift 14 yrs ago....and have used it almost everyday since.
When I built my home shop 25yrs. ago I never thought of needing more than a 9ft ceiling, after all I like low trucks. I was always able to lift inside waist high and move the lift outside for more height when needed. That was one big reason at the time I wanted a 4 post mobile lift. It didn't take long to realize that I really didn't move it that often and wished I could go back in time and build the shop taller. Then I got an Idea to open up the ceiling by raising two of the truss bottoms 4-1/2ft. and carry the load across to the other side trusses with beams at the center and ends of the opening. This now gives me 13-1/2ft. height at the peak and slopes to the ends with a 12ft ceiling to floor height. The shop width is 30ft and a length of 50ft with a 5/12 pitch - ceiling dimensions are 8ft in width by 16ft in length. Luckily I have a contractor friend that helped me determine on how the structure needed to be safe and to code. This was the inspiration video that spurred me to do this myself.

I have a 1 car garage,
I'm thinking of a cover it garage
I have an older tent garage that the canvas is shot and plan on tin roofing it..
adding some extra bracing.. and some pipe to get some more height..

or get another canvas cover and just have the lift, lift the garage/tent as well..with 4 legs
I can see the neighbors now.. watching the tent go up behind a fence, then later it down again..
