Engine check lite

I had a problem with my 2000 3500 1 ton running down the road it would stumble ,fart, wheezze, then go back to normal. May be do it the next time i drove it or not for several days. So i had new plug wires cap and rotor replaced. Drove it a block from repair shop and bang the same thing agin. They check it and said a little low fuel pressure. So i have a new fuel pump put in. Drive it a day same thing but now it happens slow speed just off idle. Take it back this time engine check light comes on code po 339 bad crank sensor put a new one in drove it agin for a day now ruff idle and the fart and wheezze again. Garage looked on his test book on line said possible wire problem from ecm to crank sensor no new codes. My truck has 199,000 miles on it but i dont drive it like she be stolen. Got it back today running ok for now . So where can i find a wiring diagram for this truck they opened bundle looked at the wires maybe moved the wire from where it was also when the fart, wheezze happens the tack needle goes crazy thanks for some help on this

Re: Engine check lite

assuming 6.0?

change out the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail yet? with 199k i would guess its time for a one of those. I have 192k on my 2003 2500HD and its starting to do some of those same things you describe, STARTING to do those things. its also once in a great while hard to start and wont idle for **** right after starting. I am 99.999% certain this is my problem. its a 60$ part at oreileys but i bet you could find em for cheap(er) elsewhere. and is an ALMOST tool-less job.

just a thought. maybe someone else can contribute their opinion?

Re: Engine check lite

Well I got a bit of help today had a guy that is a guru with reflash computers read mine in my truck he said that 4 months ago mine showed battery fail well I put a new battery in the truck 4 months ago now yes it needed the crank sensor. now the computer is looking for what cylinder is miss firing and it is jumping cylinder to cylinder trying to sink with cam sensor he hacked it and told it to relearn well i left with a better idle still small miss at idle put it to the floor an no fartin whezzzing he said drive it a few days and if it still has problem come back. All for 40.00 and a 6 pack for 30 min work had another shop charge 96.00 to tell me it needed the crank sensor for 5 min bet I don't go back to that place. Time will tell

Re: Engine check lite

Any better ways to describe than fart or wheeze? Ask a mod to move this into the 88-98 section(GMT400)

What codes are you getting?

Re: Engine check lite

check the mass air flow. they make a cleaner for it at your local parts store. take it off the truck. its the part that has the wiring harness by your air filter box.
also check the wiring connector and wiring harness for the maf for any bare wire.

the maf is responsible for the majority of all the running parameters with the obd2 systems. fuel and spark mainly but it will also mess with tranny shift points and cause alot of erratic problems

my 6.0 was kinda doing that, felt like it would almost loose a cylinder or 2 then go back to normal and i found out that a wire for my maf was rubbing on my cold air intake and started grounding out

Re: Engine check lite

I may be way off base here, but I would take the cap off the distributor and push, pull, and try and turn the rotor. I had a cam shaft eat a distributor gear, complete failure stopped me in my tracks. But, if the camshaft has worn down or worn out the distributor gear it will try and fire at inopportune times.
