Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

Yeah i scored these power leather buckets for $40 at a local swap meet last fall. Guy i bought them from said they were out of an Infiniti. I'll run these for now then maybe someday put in some period correct buddy buckets.

That 40 is really sweet. Saw size of tires you said you are going to use. Will those size meats fit under there with no mods and no rubbing if lowered cause thats the size i plan to use also. the corvette rallys and 60 series i mean.

Yeah those tire sizes with the corvette rallys will work fine. How much drop are you planning on going with. Do you plan on notching your frame. If not you can get away with a 6" rear drop with out a c-notch. With my 7" rear drop i had to notch the frame.

Thanks Rick, the fronts are 18x8 and the rears will be 20x10 with 245/45/18 front tires and 295/40/20 rears. I'm still undecided on paint right now it is between Hugger Orange and Viper Red. I'm leanining towards Hugger Orange.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

Also got my motor in the frame for the first time, took a little trial and error cause we had to modify the frame mounts to fit my headers. I have Hedman Chevelle Mid Length's so they hit on the frame mounts.

Some more pics of the motor. Will be taking it back out this weekend to re-paint the motor mounts. Tranny is a junk th400 that my brother had lying around, used it so I could get the motor in the frame, will be replacing once i purchase a new one.

Headers sit up nice and tight, will have no problem keeping my exhaust tucked up inside the frame rails.

Also just ordered my exhaust, got the 2.5" street rod builders kit from speedway motors and 2 Spintech super pro street mufflers. Should sound pretty nice.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

Yesterday I got my newly painted trailing arms in. Thanks to Hart_Rod for the rust free arms. We welded up the seem on the top and stich welded the bottoms to keep them from flexing also installed new energy suspension bushings.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

Got my exhaust run too, i'm running side exhaust, i know if you look in the pictures it seems like there is not alot of room where i ran the exhaust under the frame by the coil springs but i checked first by taking the springs out and let the trailing arms come all the way up until the rear bottomed on the bump stops in my c-notch. I still had plenty of room for the exhaust pipe. So we moved on with the install.

Have to take it back out and finish welding it up and then paint it with some por-15 1400 degree exhaust paint.

cant swear to the code! I could find out, but I believe it was a very common color.

Re: Project "What was I Thinking" 68 SWB

Yeah if your color was a factory color in 1972 then i'm pretty sure it would be 516 which is the same code for Orange in 1968. I think Hugger or Red/Orange is 524.
