1 ton questions

I'm hoping to start a mobile blasting business in the next couple of years and would like to have an older truck to put everything on. Are there any power disc brake conversions for the big trucks and I would like to have AC sometime in the future and power steering. I will be hauling a bit of weight and think a 1 ton should be up to the task. Also, would 5.3 swap be a good idea? Not so much for speed but for comfort in case I have to go out of town. It would really suck to have to drive a couple of hours with the stock 6 banger and who knows what gears.

Heres a couple I have been looking at,

Re: 1 ton questions

I just finished a power disc swap for a 1947 1 Ton, also installed AC and power steering.

we didn't end up using the bearing conversion and kept the stock wheel bearings

it also shows the power steering conversion we did using a 67 C10 hardware and made a new drag link. The engine is a 292 6 cylinder and a 14 bolt rear end

it does 65 with no problems, keep the original seat if you want comfort. 1 tons ride hard without the old seat in them

Re: 1 ton questions

the 47 looks like a 1.5 ton from the size of the wheels and fender openings.
can anyone confirm this?

you'd definitely want new running gear as it's probably a 5.17 or higher rearend
unless you enjoy cruising at 45 mph

Re: 1 ton questions

Here is a big bolt on a shortened late 80s 4wd dually frame. The bed is 8'. has a 454 and what ever auto trans/tranfer came with it. Had all the hard stuff done needed the interior and final body work. He sold it for 5K with out the Alcoa wheel conversion. I never drove it on the highway but he said it cruised easy at 70.
