Defrost control cable and arm

OK, So here is the next in the series of never ending questions for my son's 69. The defrost cable, arm and diverter flap. It seems the little arm that the cable runs along to open and shut the flap to divert the hot air is very close to the firewall insulation. I think that, and also a worn or stuck cable seems to be keeping the flap closed and no defrost on the truck. Is that little arm supposed to be on the firewall side of the truck? If so, should it be so close that it is rubbing the insulation? That is the only thing I can see that is keeping it from moving up and down. Anybody have any photos of what it should look like? I have a new controller and cables I will be installing soon, but just wondering as I sit here and have a beer what the deal is? Thanks to all who may have any input. RR

Thumbs up Re: Defrost control cable and arm

The defrost is on the front side (feet side)of the cab duct work down by the center of the truck. This is for a stock heater system.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Hmmmm, mine is on the back. I will try and get some photos, but it is a straight arm that is in the back of the setup.

Re: Defrost control cable and arm

OK. I looked a little closer at your photos. That is right, but there is a part where the hoses hook in at the top to run to the vents on the dash. That part has the lever on the back and seems to be the problem with my son not getting any airflow to the dash vents. Does that make more sense? It is easy to take out, so I will take it out and post some photos but in the meantime, does anybody know what I might be looking at? LOL.

Thanks for the input.

Is yours A/C or non-A/C?

Not sure about what your asking about in you last post. There is no factory stuff inside the hoses going to the dash that would keep the defrost from working.
Doesn't matter if it's AC are not.
Can you post pictures of what you are talking about?

Re: Defrost control cable and arm

it is non ac. I will take the part out and get some photos so you guys can see it. It is the piece where the dash vent hoses hook up to at the box. It has two spots for the dash vents to hook up to and has a flap on the inside to redirect the air up to the dash. It is hard to explain, so I will try and get some photo's up

Re: Defrost control cable and arm

The flap on the inside goes up and down to direct the heat up to the dash or down to the floor.. Is this the normal 1969 setup?

Nope, not '69 GM truck anyway. I don't know what that is out of.

Agree not a 67-72 truck heater part. Maybe a car from that same time frame but definitely not a truck part.
Pictures of my 68 I just finished doing. These are all the parts inside the cab for heat only.

Re: Defrost control cable and arm

Thanks guys, I have been lucky enough to have a board member offer to sell me the correct parts. So, my son is not happy, but at least we will have the right stuff in it going forward.
