Re: Weird stuff you find.

Crock-brewed sauerkraut using the lactic acid process is the best. That...stuff that is made with vinegar is garbage, plain and simple.

Re: Weird stuff you find.

Just grilled up Brats and had sauerkraut with my two boys last night. I have a kraut cutter stashed away in the attic. I wish I had a picture. When I was a kid, this is what my friend's dad called a kraut cutter.

Re: Weird stuff you find.

Grabbed these out of my neighbors recycle . Have no idea what he was doing with them man cant even turn on a water hose without screwing it up. Funny thing is I was looking for some stabilizers for my dump now that I put an arch on it for logs. So now I have 4 with the wrench . Think they would be for a Toyota class c camper

It's funny what people throw out.

When my wife got a place in a fire restricted area. (You could only use gas grills). She needed as gas grill. Our friend showed up and had a 4 burner gas Weber in the back of his truck. He was working in some high end neighborhood and it was out with the trash. So he grabbed it. She's had that grill for about 15 years now. It still works perfectly.

I found a tailgate that had obviously been taken off a new truck sitting out with the trash. The trash guys were coming up the street when I grabbed it. They didn't look too happy. I think that they wanted it. I gave it to my buddy that was restoring a 70 C10. That was 30+ years ago. He still has it. He keeps it wrapped up in towels. And his truck still isn't finished.

Oh yeah. I'm right there with you. I keep saying I'm going to get rid of stuff but it never happens. I just buy more. The other day I bought a pressure cooker then realized that I already had one. Now I have two.

Does anybody want to buy a pressure cooker?

I agree 100%.
This Old German fella I used to work, his rather large family got together every year to fill the crocks and let it brew/ferment, then later can it in mason jars...no comparison.

Re: Weird stuff you find.

I just found my 1977/78 coveralls I wore at the dealership. They were chewed up and were WAY to small to be worn by me nowadays. I was a bean pole back then! Had to save the patch. Might put it on a hat.

Or get a new work shirt and have it sewed on. It would be too cool for school.

Re: Weird stuff you find.

Good move on saving the patch. I 'repurpose' patches like that. I put them on my current coveralls, jackets, and hats. At swap meets I look for the patches with my name on them. I have found some really cool vintage speed patches, too.

I have to start taking pictures. I find a lot of cool things, and keep them.

Re: Weird stuff you find.

Getting ready to re-side the shop. Doing some clean up and found this lock.
"Prevents unauthorized use"
"Stop unauthorized long-distance calls"

While pulling the old trim, found these cool marked boards.

We had a Long-Bell lumber and home center in central Ark up until some time in the 70's.

The history of the company is interesting. This link is pretty good. They had a saw mill in Weed, Ca. Our wood for the house and shop probably came from there.

Well they were apparently a pretty big deal at one time. Neat history.

When I took the picture I realized the one or ones I had looked closely at are replacements, non-original. I think they are new unused. The one I picked up to take a picture of is a Guide lend, so that's the clue, it's a GM lens. I forget what year. I'll check if someone doesn't have the answer first. I also have the one reverse lens
Thats a 1954 chevy tailight. the upper half. theres also a clear lower half for reverse lights. I have 54 lights on my 53 belair.
