Weird stuff you find.

My wife and I went to the flea market. I walked right past this thing thinking I've got enough toolboxes to not be able to find anything. Not interested.

Then she called me over... Turns out it's not a toolbox. It's a barbecue. And 10 bucks later it's mine. It even came with charcoal. Never used. I'm going to put in my RV and cook up some Brat's.

Scotch Box! Used one for many years when camping. Close the lid, the fire goes out, you have some coals for later. And I don't want to admit how many tool boxes I have. It's an embarrassing number.

Re: Weird stuff you find.

I had one of those. It was a gift. I had it a while before ever using. I had stuck all my favorite car stickers on it thinking 'toolbox'. Eh... not good

* Phony made up story ^^^

That thing is cool. Nothing weird about that! Plus, everyone really does need another tool box. I buy the better ones I find even though I have quite a few. They have many uses

Here's another one I picked up. Any guesses as to what it is?

**Hint** It was made in Germany.

Ding Ding Ding! KitchenAide multi-mixer!!!

Oh I dunno. Is it a sausage or burger maker?

I really enjoy flea markets and antique shops. Auctions, too. And you can tell all around my place. Been doing it all my life. I have a huge pet peeve with antique dealers. Ok, you are (usually) going to pay more now than when new... granted. I get that and am ok with that. What chaps my britches is when they don't even know what it is but they know they want a lot of money for it... ARGH! If you want the bucks give a f... no wait. I meant to say, if you want to be an antique dealer you should be interested enough in what you are selling to find out what it is!! The worst is when the item is labeled as whatever their guess is... misleading and ignorant. I bought this thing down below one day. I knew exactly what I was and it is as handy dandy as it can be. The dealer had it marked as "Bacon Press" . Really? Is that why it's made out of aluminum???
It's a pot strainer ya doomkof

Its made like the food mill I use to make BlackBerry jelly without the seeds. The holes are larger in what you have though.

Re: Weird stuff you find.

I found this abandoned planter in the hills. Manufactured by John Blue Co, Huntsville AL. Probably past the point of repair, but I may clean it up for yard art.

Find all kinds of stuff here . Everytime I dig around the barn I usually find some odd piece of iron or horseshoe. This was actually sitting in nook of the stone foundation. Tap for a wood keg

Re: Weird stuff you find.

That's great yard art. Very cool. The large holes are what have me wondering on Paul's German offering.

I'm going to use this thread for some tail light lens ID help. I ended up with these, never looked at cars to figure it out. I thought it would be more fun to play "Whatzit". I have three. When I took the picture I realized the one or ones I had looked closely at are replacements, non-original. I think they are new unused. The one I picked up to take a picture of is a Guide lend, so that's the clue, it's a GM lens. I forget what year. I'll check if someone doesn't have the answer first. I also have the one reverse lens

Re: Weird stuff you find.

As some may know I'm daple in knife making . This knife was found in the barn point stuck into one of the beams. It's been my favorite butcher knife for 10 years . Takes a razor sharp edge and holds it well. Not weird but interesting

Re: Weird stuff you find.

After living here over 10 years I found a couple of round wood cook stove top inserts out in the middle of the horse pasture between the house and the barn. Nothing weird about them except where I found them and the fact that I walk through there every day in the summer and it took that long for them to show up.

My friend owns the flea market/antique store. He's very reasonable on his prices. The down side to that is that I end up buying too much stuff. It's so cheap that I can't pass it up. Sometimes he just gives it to me. He buys estates out. He just filled his 20 foot trailer up 3 times. He gets a lot of cool stuff and just wants to move it because his 5000 square foot building is overflowing.

I'll spill the beans on the German thingy. (Drum roll please)

It's a Spaetzle maker!

I had to look up Spaetzle since you didn't tell what it was. "German Dumplings".

I recognized it instantly. I have fond memories of my Mama standing over the stove making Spaetzle. In Italy they're called gnocchi, and in Argentina ñoquis. The difference is that in Italy and Argentina they're served with tomato sauce and cheese, while in Germany they're usually served with some type of meat gravy. Both are delicious.

I bought one and have it in my kitchen. It doesn't get used often enough, though...

Yes, Fleetside, it is a spaetzli maker. If it had smaller holes in the bottom it would be a potato ricer. Special K, it is a device to use when draining/pouring liquid out of a pot while retaining the content.

Well I knew it wasn't a cabbage shredder for making home made sauerkraut. When my mom died I inherited her crock and shredder. It was always amusing when my mom went to the grocery store and bought a case lot of cabbage!

I thought I would share one. I know what it is and it is the only one I have ever seen. I suspect each of your spouses have the modern version. It clamps to the edge of the counter top for stability.

I love Kraut as well. I was buying this one. It was a little on the pricey side but worth it.

I guess it was a little too pricey. My market stopped selling it.
