Re: Bride of Young Frankenstein - 1957 Buick Super

My 22 yr old daughter has been hanging over my shoulder when I work on cars since she could walk. Now she is just a few credits from having a Associates Degree in Automotive Tech. It is a real change to go out to work on something and someone is already using the tool that you need to use. She has started to rebuild a jeep cj2a-1947. http://www.thecj2apage.com/forums/19...opic33573.html
checkout the welds.

Nice Job! I did a CJ 2A one time, I'll have to find some pictures and post them.

Re: Bride of Young Frankenstein - 1957 Buick Super

Tonight we started in on the lower control arm mounts. Buzzed these things out in no time flat - thanks plas!!!

Also shown are the finished angled arms, should work very nicely and zero cost!

Re: Bride of Young Frankenstein - 1957 Buick Super

These mounts for the LCAs are working out really well. I scored a line to help me bend it by hand in my vise - I need a press and metal brake!!!

I needed a slight angle to have a really strong spot to weld to and still keep the LCA level at ride height.

Yes! 2 from underneath and 1 on top. But the main forces are front to rear push pull on acceleration and braking. Keeping the whole assembly from rotating around.

Re: Bride of Young Frankenstein - 1957 Buick Super

To finish up for tonight, I have tacked in the mounts and the mounting cups from the Jag body. I disconnected the coil-overs so I could cycle the suspension fully up and down and check for clearance issues with the LCAs. Everything looks good so far. Now I am ready to drop the rear suspension assembly to get to the undersides of the frame rails for more welding and grinding. Also I'll need to work out the 6 brackets on my new LCA mounts.

Re: Bride of Young Frankenstein - 1957 Buick Super

I found a couple of pics of my 1947 CJ 2A I built about 20 years ago. It was my first hybrid - a 47 front clip mated to a 1980 CJ 5 tub and chassis. It had a 304 V8 and 4 speed combo and was smokin fast. I had to remake the flat fenders 4 inches lunger and get 2 hoods and extend the hood 4 inches also by welding them together. The firewall was also a bear since it was so much narrower, I had to move the pedals over some and relocate the fuse block to the inside of the steering column. Overall it was pretty easy and looked awesome.

I thought you would appreciate this, Drew. I wonder how many of these suspensions are sitting in people's garages?

Re: Bride of Young Frankenstein - 1957 Buick Super

Pretty underwhelming Saturday night picture time. All I've done is drop the whole assembly again so I can get at the welds underneath.

Not much accomplished here since all last week I was scurrying around getting ready for my latest SportClips Grand Opening. We now have 6 locations as of Friday. I got a call from the CEO -Gordon Logan- today to congratulate me on our 6th location!

Congrat's on six sport clips. Are franchises numerous or are you acquiring, then turning around, underperforming locations?

Re: Bride of Young Frankenstein - 1957 Buick Super

I have bought 4 locations, opened 2 new ones myself, and have 1 more new location to build out. Today we are looking at Clemson University with Biz and will probably stay for the game and homecoming festivities = no work to report on the Buick. Boooooo

I did happen to find a great picture of what we hope to end up with.

What model Miller welder do you have there? I'm looking at buying my first welder. I don't need anything to massive.

Millermatic 180. I really love it. I used to have a Lincoln and it was definitely more crude than this new Miller. I killed the Lincoln halfway through my Young Frankenstein build.

Hi Drew
I'm George 57 Buicks are my favorite, you and your daughter are doing a great job on this one.
I found you by following a link from the Buick Club. I'm in the process of doing this with on a 1930 Buick coupe.I've installed a Fatman fabrications front suspension and picking up tomorrow a C4 corvette rear suspension. You are a little ahead of me so i'm off to try and catch up.
