Need help with 91 tbi suburban

long time no post. But i recently got a decent 91 suburban k1500 that surprisingly enough still has the tbi system intact. The problem that i am getting is a 1/4th-ish throttle hesitation, and SES light that resets every time i shut the truck down and start it back up. And the SES light seems to come on if i give it more than 1/4 throttle, like when i go on the interstate. And just today before getting home there was a rattle/knock/ping that would happen intermittently and go away if i let off the gas. How far off would i be if i was thinking that it could be the knock sensor giving me issues?

Sounds like the timing is off. There is a connector that needs to be disconnected to put the computer in set timing mode when the distributor adjusted.

Re: Need help with 91 tbi suburban

Well i talked with my dad last night, who retired last year as a gm certified tech, and he told me that i could still pull codes without the SES being lit. So i pulled a 43, which if Professor Google can be believed, is a knock sensor. Good thing I work at the big salvage yard here in Spokane, i can get the sensors from core engines, just gotta figure out which sensors look the nicest.

And 67gto, i would have agreed with you if it was a consistent occurrence evertime i drove it, instead of happening just before getting home yesterday, and having driven it all week last week. But i still need to properly shake this thing down to figure out any of the other issues besides the steering bearing in the column just before the intermediate shaft
