"How to?" a '67 Cameo - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I like the look of the '55-'57 Cameo's. When I bought my '67 it was already a two tone scheme with a white cab, turquoise body, white bed floor, white interior door panels, white glove box cover, white instrument panel, remainder of interior turquoise. That all reminded me of the Cameo trucks and their two tone schemes.

I have charcoal grey fabric buckets now. I am putting in a Hurst shifter with the white knob (seems to fit the look). I am going to update the gage cluster and put the gas gage in the center area (basic gage fits the hole) with an aftermarket white face SunPro tach in the "normal" gas gage location. White face the spedo and gas gages (I already use white face aftermarket volt, oil pressure, temp, and vacuum gages). When I get rich I'll redo the seats to leather. Not sure of the color, but I'm thinking black with the seam welt trim in turquoise. Steering wheel will be a '69 comfort grip like in the '69 Camaro and Chevelle.

I'm planning on the Herculiner white for the bed floor, and possibly try for a paint match of the body bed liner for the sides and bed tops.

For all you frustrated truck designers out there, how's this sound for a"what Chevy would have done if the Cameo went into 1967" truck"? Or maybe like a "Camero C-10"?

Ideas?

I love phantom builds! I think it would be very cool. Turquoise and white is such a good looking, classic color combo that's hard it would be hard to mess up IMO. I would paint the very top of the bed sides white like the original cameos were. It might look really good with some wide whitewalls too, you if you really want to go with the classic cameo look. I'm feelin it!!

Yeah! My bumpers are white now, and my headlamp bezels are too . . . just like the '58 (or '59?) pictured.

Whops! The '58 or '59 is obviously a step side, the '57 pictured above it is a Cameo.

Line-X won`t do white because it yellows.I think you have a great idea.I`d think to be a`67 Cameo you`d have to use rear quarters from a`67 car?

Well . . . ther're like the '66 car - horizontal. The fleetside lights are essentially the same - long rectangle - only vertical.

If that makes sense.

You`re right.But,people probably won`t get it.They`ll just look and see a Chevy pickup truck tail light/bed,not know what`s the difference.I`m just saying if there was some "Q" from the cars that would lend to your theme.Not much moulding used on`67 cars,though.I`m thinking you`d have to get a Stepside,like the original Cameos,and graft 1/4s from an impala or something.Or.just redisign the tailend to lean forward and use car tail lights or something along those lines.
Just throwing ideas out,that`s all.

All a cameo is is a stepside with fiberglass "fleetside" bedsides bolted on...

If you truely wanted to do a Cameo (I think this would be awesome!) start with a stepside bed, extend the top rail of a set of fleetside bedsides outer skin to meet the stepside, maybe put some kind of curve or arch in it so it isn't just a huge wide flat area. You could even use a 55-58 cameo tailgate and fab up some ends similar to the cameos with some sort of roll pan and bumperettes that match the rear bodyline of the bed...

Man, I wish I could photoshop....
