Cool "Hey, what year is that truck?"

So how many times are you asked this when your out with your truck?

Yesterday was just crazy! I took my stepside out and stopped at about 5 different places. EVERYTIME I did, someone asked me what year it was!

I'm about to paint "it's a 1969" on the doors!

I appreciate the interest but it does drive me crazy a little. Everybody sure does love these old trucks.

The best one was the other day at the post office. An older lady walked out and said, "I love your truck". Even the smell! She said they don't smell like that anymore meaning the exhaust. (it's a 454)

Re: "Hey, what year is that truck?"

Yeah, when I met my girlfriend a nice Chevelle went by and she said,"I love the smell of a Quadrajet". I guess the F/Is don't smell the same. I always noticed the old Chevy 6s had a distinctive smell and Fords tended to stink. No,really,I noticed that.

As far as people asking about my truck goes,it doesn't bother me. If I have time I talk,if not I keep it short. It's nothing new. I've dealt with it with pretty much everything I've driven since I started. I have to drive something a little different

Re: "Hey, what year is that truck?"

My Pop's whole basement has that 'truck' smell. I don't know if it's the interior ? or just the trucks in general ?

My old Camaros had that smell too but it was different than the trucks. It's strange. .. but I definitely think the newer stuff just doesn't have that old truck smell. I agree 100%

Now, the difference in a carb smell ? I don't know if I could tell the differnece say in a QJet vs. Holley. .. just me. She's a keeper Tim!

I've tried to explain that to a few people.. there's something in the interior..
in the seats, or the upholstery that's unique to the 60s Camaros.
and no other car smells that way.

It's a great smell that takes me back to 1968 again..
Now, if I can only find a Sunoco station that sells 260...
that was a great smell.

Re: "Hey, what year is that truck?"

Yeah, I've only been driving my '72 for about 2 weeks, and I've gotten that question a couple of times. I don't really mind, because I love the old girl...and I've gotten more positive feedback on her than anything since I had my '78 shortfleet back in the early '90's.

As for the smell...I love it! It brings me back to the days of pumping gas at my local garage when I was 17!

Re: "Hey, what year is that truck?"

I get it a lot also and it doesn't really bother me.The only thing I can't wrap my head around is people thinking it's a 50's truck.I mean if you don't have a clue don't just throw a # out there.

Oh and as far as the smell, there's 2 ways to think of that one is
"I could describe it but then I'd have to kill you" or "If you have to ask,you wouldn't understand."

This is one of the reasons I have one of these old trucks, I have so many memories of when I was young and so were these trucks.

The smell of the exhaust of the 454 in my truck is different than that of some other 454s, some have a hint of raw gas smell and mine doesn't.

One of the reason the newer vehicles has a different smell is all the plastic and vinyl in them. Our old trucks are mostly metal.

Re: "Hey, what year is that truck?"

It's a running joke with my bud that has a 72.

First two questions that everyone asks when we stop anywhere in either truck.

"What year is that?"
"How much would you take for it?"

No one is ever interested in buying, they just want to ask

Owning a 1972 GMC I always get... "I didn't know GMC made trucks that old."

Re: "Hey, what year is that truck?"

I always get some know it all telling me that they stopped making stepsides in the '50's so my truck can't be a '72. I had a guy at a gas station years ago insisting it was a '55, he would not let up and kept telling me I didn't know what I was talking about.

Re: "Hey, what year is that truck?"

It's basically a pickup line, in hopes that you'll talk to them about your truck. It's sort of like a guy asking a random girl he's attracted to some sort of question that engages her.

At the same time, a girl asking what year your truck is, may be interested in your truck AND in you, so play your cards wisely

Re: "Hey, what year is that truck?"

I just look at it as an excuse to have a conversation with somebody else who likes trucks. And if the questioner turns out to be a dick or an idiot, you can just say "I gotta go," then get in your truck and leave.

Re: "Hey, what year is that truck?"

Don't forget the common line, "I had one just like it". I get that one alot too and alot of times they also say they should have kept it!

I remember a few years ago at a gas station, a good looking girl asked if she could take a picture of my truck. I said sure, go right ahead. (she didn't ask me to be in it the pic though-bummer) LOL

Re: "Hey, what year is that truck?"

My wife is of Taiwanese descent, but born and raised in Sao Paulo Brazil. Very few people there know and respect these old trucks like we do. I can't wait to get mine running and pull in to a gas station so she can experience this.

My mother in law rode with me in my GMC before I tore it down and had never seen a 3OTT, it was pretty funny.

Re: "Hey, what year is that truck?"

I usually get "Nice '72". I just say thanks. It's the guys that are like "Hey, is that a '83? I had one just like it." that get me. I mean how did you have a truck and not know the year, or even decade?

Years ago, I was waiting for my g/f, now wife in front of her dorm. I was sitting on the curb and this smoking hot blonde came and sat down next to me. She was a little country with a long braid, tight jeans and boots...she says "Nice truck, my Grandad had one just like it, he taught me how to drive in it". I'm thinking, yeah I heard this one before. She says "It was a '71 just like yours, shortbed, automatic, tach, tilt, blue and white just not lowered." Now she really has my attention! We talked for a minute and she asked if she could take it for a drive. It took me waaay to long to remember why I was sitting on that curb and I basically shredded my man card when I declined. In my defense she was far out of my league. Future wife arrived within a few seconds too. Or maybe I was hallucinating. Nope, it happened. DOH.

That's definitely the question I get asked most, despite the fact I have this plate. Or I'll get people that'll say anything from 64-84...

Yeah, mine has '67 tags on it and it never fails that someone will ask me what year it is. My favorite question is "Are you gonna do any work to it?" Its kinda like gettin Kung fu'd in the face considering the work I have in it up to now!

Stupid Utah. I've tried to get a vanity plate, but they won't allow the numbers 69 in it anywhere.

I'm about ready to give em the bird, and do Roman numerals with my own little something at the end. How about :LXIXDTF

I checked. It's allowed and available lmfao!
