Re: My 56 build

Thanks mark! I’m sure you’ll get recognize my gas cap. I saw that you used the same one. I’m going to mount it in the fender. Got the idea at our local car show.

Also got my fuel tank. My project this weekend! It’s from tanks inc. it’s there universal 15 gallon tank. Also got one of there fuel pump assemblies. No fuel float as I don’t have my gauge n don’t know what ohm range I need yet.

Re: My 56 build

Didn’t get to the tank this weekend. I decided I should probably install the rear roll pan first, so I ordered that. Im figuring I may have to move my rear cross member and the tank will mount to that. I did finish the hood bracing and stripped the underside.

Re: My 56 build

Finished mounting the tank today. I built my own straps. Also started the filler tube. Had to notch the frame to make it work. So far so good! Now to finish filler tube and mount the cap in the fender

Re: My 56 build

curious where on the fender you decided to mount the filler. too low will make you need a snickers at the gas station because it will take fuel really slow and burp back a lot.

It’s going to be neat the top of the fender. Close to where the cap is sitting in post 151. The pipe going through the box side is a 45.

Re: My 56 build

Finished the filler tube and the gas cap. Cap turned out or good. I put it in the corner because the cap is convex and will blend in to the fender. Also mounted the roll over valve/breather. The last picture is looking up under the fender.

Re: My 56 build

Also spent some time on the roll pan. Changing the sides to flow with the fenders. Still have to finish welding the right side and make the left. Stopped early today because my heater quit working. Was only in the 20’s today with 3 inches of snow. Hopefully I won’t need the heater again until fall... hopefully

Nice work! Love the flow of the roll pan and wish I had done the filler!

Re: My 56 build

Thanks SG

Spent some more time on the roll pan. Thought I had it all set until I looked down on it. The side angles are different. This has left the pan with a twist. Not sure how I’m going to fix it yet. I have a couple of ideas... time to sleep on it

I like your choice of gas cap. I bought mine at the local Harley Davidson shop.

Sorry DS ... I decided to fix it

Here’s a few pictures of the fix. The first picture shows where it has to be so there is no twist in the roll pan. Turned out pretty nice! I’m now working on getting the rest of the truck ready for primer. Have to finish stripping the interior. All the bare metal is starting to surface rust with the humidity. Hopefully by Friday. I took some time of from work to escape all the stupid

Re: My 56 build

Thanks for the compliments!

Here’s some pictures of most everything in primer. I used my metal shrinker disc for the first time. Both rear fenders were beat up pretty bad. I read about it somewhere on the forum (maybe bam). They are awesome! Still have to prime the underside of the hood, inner fenders, steps n roll pan. I’m debating raising the bed 3 inches so the body line on the rear fenders match the cab. Kyle Bush has a 56 he had done that way. I like the look, but more work. I’d have to section the step and front part of the rear fenders. I’m thinking it’s going to happen!

Re: My 56 build

A couple pictures of the front. Cleaned n preped the upper and lower grill supports. Plan on buying a new chrome grill. Now I’m deciding on bumper placement. Just setting on the frame for now. It going to be about an 1&1/2” higher.

Re: My 56 build

I’ve also decided the leave the box alone. The step in the body line gives it character and this way I don’t feel I need my head examined!

Re: My 56 build

Started on the tilt hood today. Thanks to barnfind62 I have lots of pictures to work from. I finished all the hood bracing today. The last picture is the heim joints, u-grove rollers, and the pipe I’m going to use.

Re: My 56 build

Looking good! I can’t wait to see it working. Yesterday I finished the fender gapping on the hood. Now it meets the fender like is supposed too.

You mentioned your tilt hood wasn’t functioning properly... what was it doing? Hopefully I can prevent some design defects.

I got it working right after some pain and frustration. I figured out the wheels need to be loose so it can track the guides to shut right. Not in the instructions.
