Re: 69 C60 Mega Truck Hauler

Thanks again David!! My wife and I got the trans in tonight. Lots of little things to do before she's ready to fire. I'll update when I make some more decent progress.

Re: 69 C60 Mega Truck Hauler

Everything is in and it runs, I will upload pictures soon. For now I have a very dumb question. My heater, has no selector to turn on/off or adjust the motor speed as far as I can see. The blower motor does work, it's brand new and I've ran a hot wire to the battery. Can someone point me in the right direction.

Re: 69 C60 Mega Truck Hauler

Looks like the center control should turn your fan on and off. The bottom would regulate the water flow via a cable operated valve in your heater hose, and the top lever would shift a door to direct the air to the defrost ducts.

Thanks. I just checked it out, I have an electrical gremlin in the system I'll have to deal with.

Re: 69 C60 Mega Truck Hauler

I made new knobs for everything, they're 316L SS I made on the lathes. Here's a picture of one of the new ones above one of the old ones. I'm not sure how to turn them so they're straight.

Here's a couple videos for you guys. Ones just a dumb cold start, the other is a nice shot under the hood. The front end still needs finished putting back together when I get time. For now I'm just happy I can move it around again.

Looking good! Love the orange block with black valve covers, very nice.

Sounds good as well. Just need a trailer and heavy load.

Re: 69 C60 Mega Truck Hauler

Thanks, I actually have a set of brand new black finned tall aluminum valve covers to replace those ones I haven't put on. I cleaned the originals up and slapped them on so I could get it installed.

I have lots more work that still needs done and plan to have it ready for the street this spring. Once it hits the road and I work the bugs out I'll be picking up a car hauler.

Re: 69 C60 Mega Truck Hauler

Progress has been slow since it's cold out.
I've done some small things like change the filter on the air pump, made new brackets for the new tail lights wired them and installed those, new smoked cab lights on it with LED bulbs, plumbed the saddle tank in, new can and gas filter since the original one decided to spring a leak, I grabbed a few extra filters since the saddle tank is a little dirty. Last night my wife and I went on about a 3 hour round trip to get a set of brand new recaps.

Re: 69 C60 Mega Truck Hauler

I have all 6 tires and rims now all 22.5s 295/75s. I bought the rims used, they have some surface rust on them but I'm cleaning them up and painting them so they look new.

I replaced the blower switch and resistor. The blower now works with the controls.

I bought a new glove box and put that in today too.

The gauge cluster is currently out and I have its replacement. I also bought a new bezel. I'm just waiting for time to install it.

I went ahead and bought a new ignition and door locks so I have one key for everything.

I also purchased a new floor mat for it. It's on back order and the company has no idea when it will be shipped...

The glove box looks nice. Please update us on the fit and quality of the floor mat when you get it installed.

Re: 69 C60 Mega Truck Hauler

Still no update on the floor mat but here's something else I've been working on. I got a GPS speedometer also. There's a little more to do to it but that's the bulk of it. I have a mechanical air pressure gauge I haven't figured out where I'm going to put it yet.

Re: 69 C60 Mega Truck Hauler

I finally got a picture of the two trucks next to each other.

I cut the bent piece of C-channel off the back and welded a new piece of tube onto it. I will be putting a 2" receiver in it so I can pull a regular pull behind trailer given the need. It's a bad picture but for reference look at one of the pictures above. I'll post a better one once the receiver is on.

I had planned to have the front tires mounted to the rims this week and have them all put on at the sane time. Given this virus stuff that's going on, that went out the window.

I'm having a hard time getting this truck timed just right. I had it at 10 degrees initial and it was popping. I took it to 8 degrees and I can bearly get it to move under its own power. Tomorrow I plan to take it up to about 12 degrees and see what it does. Everything I've read says I should be at or close to 8 degrees and it should be good. I'm not sure what's going on with the ole girl but she isn't happy.

On an upside I'm buying back the 52 willys pick up truck I sold 4 years ago. For those who are curious I put a 460/C6 combo in it. It was originally going to be my mega truck but things happened and I took it from a huge 4wd to a 2wd just before I sold it. It's pretty much unchanged for the most part from the day I sold it.

Re: 69 C60 Mega Truck Hauler

I went through and readjusted the valves and put a new fuel pump in her and she's running perfectly now. No popping out the exhaust anymore, I thought I may have lost the cam in this motor for a little bit too. I took it for a short ride today and it has good power with no complaints. I only got it up to 45 or so but that was enough on the rough road.

One of these days I'm bound to get that damn floor mat!

Re: 69 C60 Mega Truck Hauler

My floor mat came in after 5 months and fits like crap, I have a bit of work to do to make it close to being right.

My daughter and I got all 6 new tires and rims installed. My driver side front tire won't spin by hand. It's locked up. I drove the truck to where it is yesterday so it moves under load. Hopefully that's the power loss I've been suspect of.

Re: 69 C60 Mega Truck Hauler

Thanks! Here's how she's sitting as of now with the new tires installed. The floor mat is just about done. I found the tie rod ends were shot so I pulled them off, cleaned up the bar and have new ends on the way. I'm at the point that I will be focusing on the details and fine tuning soon, starting with a new set of mud flaps!

Re: 69 C60 Mega Truck Hauler

Here's the fit and finish of the floor mat. I wasn't happy at all with how it fit at first. I ended up having to cut it in multiple places multiple ways to get it to fit as well as it does now.
There's some other things I've done hiding in plain sight too in the pictures.
Im glad to say that I have finally resolved my power issue. This truck flat out moves now! I went for a nice drive and was able to hit 55 mph in no time flat.

Re: 69 C60 Mega Truck Hauler

I got her out and managed to put a few miles on her today. As soon as I pulled back into the driveway and was backing in she shut down and went up in flames. It's not a total loss but it's going to take some work to get her back running. I'm not sure how anything started since everything in the fuel system was brand new. Lines, filter, carb... Everything. I tried loading a picture of the engine but the site wouldn't let me do it. She was running so good too...

Re: 69 C60 Mega Truck Hauler

All wiring under the hood is shot, fuel lines are done, probably rebuild the carb, all rubber lines on the top of the engine are trashed, distributor is melted. I've come this far this is nothing but a set back for now. I'll get it fixed it'll just take time and money.

Wow, I am sorry. Do you have any idea of the cause? Looks like a good pressure washer and some elbow grease you will be going again soon.

Re: 69 C60 Mega Truck Hauler

The only thing I can think that happened was a gas leak somewhere. I was fortunate enough to have just pulled back into my driveway and was able to grab a fire extinguisher otherwise she would have burnt to a crisp on the side of the road. It got hot enough to bubble the paint on the hood, now it flakes right off.
