Re: My Stepside build...5 months to build a driver. can it be done?

It will be fun to see this come together in such a short time. I thought I'd have mine done in 6 months or so but it has been a few years now. I work nights and 12-16 hours per so that evening work time from supper to midnight doesn't exist and Sunday is usually spent recouperating. Monday is my best day off and I try to get something done every week. This week I got the p/s pump put together and mounted only to discover that I still don't have the right pulley. Two steps forward and one step back again.

Re: My Stepside build...5 months to build a driver. can it be done?

I know what you mean about 12-16 hour work days i work 7 am to 6 pm daily with weekends off. im usually pretty tired when i get home. i started the build in dec. and was really hoping to have a good solid driver by may. if i keep things on pace its still possible but we'll see.. i think work is getting in the way of my hot rodding time... **note to self.... quit job**.... winter was real rough around here and i didnt get near as much done as i hoped for but i did manage to buy a lot of the parts i needed now its just a matter of getting everything installed.

Still in the box lol, im adding an electric fuel pump and a blazer tank to the rear and going with a newer alternator with internal regulator... i still haveta get the fuel tank and sender but i got everything else. i want to have all my components installed first so i dont accidently snip a wire to short hoping to knock out the body work fairly quick and then onto wiring.... originally i had not planned for body work but my buddy was bored. getting over a hard relationship break up and wanted work.. for next to nothing so having someone to help me i figured i couldnt pass it up.

Re: My Stepside build...5 months to build a driver. can it be done?

thats good though i think youre on track if i was at a spot that i couldve torn mine apart then i wouldve waited to do my wiring then as well but it as a must at the time i needed it being a daily driver now i have two other trucks that ive torn down to the ground and im doing them the right way making sure to pay attention to detail. good luck on your stuff i finally go tmy engine all up and going again.

im just stoked that its finally spring and nice enough to be outside without coveralls and can get some work done i work a lot as well owning a couple of companies i dont get home til late so it doesnt stay light very long but now it does and it allows me to stay outside a little longer.

Well, this is the 'body man' here. lol just posting some pics of the progress on this damned fender. Half gallon of filler later and I know it will need more.

Sanding all this is going to be fun, so I invested in a handy tool.

Re: My Stepside build...5 months to build a driver. can it be done?

well i told myself i was just going to get it together and running and driving so i could enjoy it, and come to find out, i got it all apart and in pieces. lol randy*teeitup* had a cab that was 100% better than my old one so i decided to do a cab swap. and since im doing that i figured i better get everything off so i can por 15 the frame. so you know how it is, one thing leads to another and now this is where my project is at....

Re: My Stepside build...5 months to build a driver. can it be done?

Yep 5 months can turn into years especially if you keep up the way you're going!! I started on toomanytoyz' truck and it was to be done several months ago, but life got in the way. We decided to change some things as he and I wanted it done right the first time so things got added and the time got extended. You are doing good, and I understand the well it's out I might as well...mentality, but be careful time and money will fly by. Unless you've torn a vehicle apart this far and put one together it is hard to explain how SO MANY HOURS can go into the littlest of things. I have a new appreciation for HIGH DOLLAR FULL RESTO'S as it is a lot of work to pull one down (this is the easier part though), then reassemble it. Once they sit for a while motivation slips away. You have done a heck of a job, keep it up and I am sure it can be done just keep the final picture in mind!!

Re: My Stepside build...5 months to build a driver. can it be done?

yeah i know how time and motivation can dwindle from you, im 20 years old and ive managed to do a complete pan off resto on a 71 super beetle. then a total of 3 60's mustangs before ive started on this truck.... no one likes to do crappy work and hte beauty is really in the details. thats what wins shows and gets the looks and being that working on these things keeps my head clear from all the stresses at work its more of therapy than work to me. im sure some of the other guys know what i mean... you have a tough day sometimes u just wanna be left alone in the garage.
