Door Weatherstip

Got the truck back from paint shop. Doors are flush and square. Open and close well and everthing is lined up. I installed the new weather strip now the door is hard to latch. It closes good to the firts latch but to close tight I need to give it a good hard push to get it to lock closed not sure if I could get them to latch closed from inside the truck tell I get door panels set.. Will the weahter strip crush to allow easy operation? It is going on 10 days with doors close in hot sun. Or should I try adjusting doors. I hate to have them not flush just to get doors to close.

Give it more time before you adjust the doors. In about a month they will slowly get better.

new weatherstripping will take awhile to flatten out .. ull be slamming your doors for awhile... are you running stock weather stripping or the upgrade to the newer push on style (88up chevy pickups)

Put new weather stripping in mine about 6 months ago and it still needs a good slam. (not a daily driver) I wouldn't adjust anything. Crack your window and/or open the foot vents to let air escape. It'll make shutting a little easier and like the others said, give it some time.

I put new weather seals in my Sons 64 and they were real buggers for about a month. Tight as hell, but what I started doing is leaving the windows down slightly because of the pressure that the new seals were causing in the cab when you would close the doors. Also I put a small V cut in the bottom of the Door Rubber to allow the air to release from the Door Seal. I now need to adjust the striker plate on the doors because they have now softened enought that they need re-adjusting. I have to tell you The seals on my Oldest Sons 69 were a lot more forgiving but they too are fairly tight and hard to close. I would try the V cut and let it set in the sun.

I was wondering about the small "v" cut. In the shop manual it recommends doing that. I will do that now that I here it works. Thanks for the replys.

It is just stock. Got it from Truck Shop. Hope the California heat will break it in soon.

I waited two months and even cut relief vents in the new weatherstriping and I still had to slam my doors, I finally moved the striker out about 1/4", I thought it was going to make my doors not fit flush but I was wrong, it turns out the latch was simply not allowed to revolve around and latch. Now my doors close very smoothly with a gentle push.

Good to know. I was afraid even a small move would effect the outside lines of the doors. Once I get it on the road I will not be able to deal with slamming my doors all the time. I am afraid I will pull the door panel off one day.

You will find that the weather stripping has a reenforced section about 8 inchs long. That part of the stripping has a rubber tube in it. I just installed mine this weekend and I have the same slam issue. If you feel around the stripping it will be harder in that section. On the drvs door it lined up mid-way up the inside. On the pass side it was up on the upper section. I cut the weather sripping and pulled out the this rubber tube. It help the door closing a little. Worth checking where this reenforced section is ending up vs. your door.

I have the same section on pas side door top corner??? That is strange. Did it look like a flaw or did they intend on extra rubber to be there?? I hate to cut that large of a section. I wonder if it is a factory spice??
