1972 GMC Carpet

I have removed to replace the factory carpet in my 1972 GMC. The underlayment from the factory (thin Styrofoam topped by some stinky material) is still in good shape. The floors are original and no rust. I noticed the replacement carpet has a pad glued to the carpet...Is this intended to replace the worn and stinky factory underlayment?

Any thoughts on this would be great...Alan

I would leave the factory stuff and just put the new over it. The more sound and heat barrier the better.
