The white line is where he cut his bed. Looks like you cut yours about the same

Re: Freddy's 52 part 2

Thanks, that is one of the ones I was remembering.

I think have decided to do all my welding from the bottom side and then do some seam sealer on the top side for a clean look.

Re: Freddy's 52 part 2

1952SSR, there is two shows this Saturday, the 14th, in Gainesville. Are you planning on going to either one? If you are going to one I think I will drive over in my truck as I would like to meet you and see your truck. Let me know if you will be going and which one you will go to. I hope we can meet up.

Most likely not, I have my son this weekend and got a lot of stuff to do around the house. We'll get together sometime. Any progress on getting the gas logo.

Re: Freddy's 52 part 2

Got the bed floor tacked in place last night. I have to get me a spool of .025 today, I think the .035 will make a mess based on some of the spots I tacked up. I removed all the bracing except the second from the front and then welded a 3/4 piece of angle at the rear to allow it to have a decent fall at the rear to weld up. With a few minor drills with my step bit on the factory bracket I was able to put the bolts in and it be secured. Also included is the method used to mount the rear, nothing fancy either. Used a hole already in the frame.

Re: Freddy's 52 part 2

Made some more progress, with the floor 3/4 fully welded I moved onto transferring the cab. Finished that up last afternoon. Now onto building mounts and transferring running boards. I plan on shaving a little off the filler piece between the bed and running boards to tighten up the space between the cab and bed, I am not crazy with the amount from factory.

I think this one is proceeding faster, even if I am going about it a whole different way.

Re: Freddy's 52 part 2

Well finally with the shut down week at work I was able to do some more to "Eugene". Had got the cab mounts made, running boards removed from old chassis and installed a couple of week ago...pictures to come. So spent last week dissecting and repairing the front area of the cab and the rocker panels. I'm trying to save money by making patch pieces instead of buying them, I had an extra set of rockers from my first build "Fred". More to come shortly.

Re: Freddy's 52 part 2

Been quite awhile since an update. So here's a run down.
*Got floor replaced with solid sheet, tunnel to be cut later.
*Got chassis blown apart and cleaned.
*Painted halfway with chassis saver, will finish when it warms up.
*Made patches for each inside corner of cab, leaving rusted out corners.
*Cut and welded gas neck to cab.
*Cheap way of making recessed cups for front mount, I did weld up.

Other pictures
For you S10 swappers who need tubular upper a-arms for alignment issues or just to look better, here's the cheap solution. Order right side (they also work on the left flipped) G-body a-arms from Speedway in their racing section 49.99 each.

Not sure on gauge, but it's thick. I got blessed with 8 - 5'x5' sheets for free at my work. It's all I can do to jump on my foot shear to cut it and my 8' break had trouble bending it.

Re: Freddy's 52 part 2

Saturday after gutting the cat on my '96 Silverado that is throwing a P0300 code and it not fixing it plus wires and plugs Friday night. I proceeded to paint the top half of my frame, leafs and control arms. Used the rest on the cab floor till I ran out. Waiting on my blitz black to arrive from our local JD dealer so I can paint my frame and fender wells. Took another couple of days off, had some nice weather too tried a few more items on the '96 still no better now waiting on the spider injectors from rockauto. So late Tuesday got the cab completely deconstructed and Wednesday got both doors blown apart now to sand and get ready for paint, also does anybody know the paint code for the factory pewter color. So what do you do with a door that is rotted out and you want a cheap fix... 3 car tags and some screws. I like the progress I've been making. I hope to have this one up and running so I can drive it to the AD Nationals in September and sell it.

Re: Freddy's 52 part 2

Update: chassis parts painted with Chassis Saver and then with John Deere blitz black. I love the sheen the the JD dries to. Needless to say the Fed Ex driver knows exactly where I live now, it's been like Christmas on my porch for the past 3 weeks. It's starting to come together. I was off this week till today, yesterday I felt like Wilber and Mr. Ed... our horse stood at the door for a couple of hours just watching me while I worked. Front ends 90% assembled and wheels test fitted.

Re: Freddy's 52 part 2

Front suspension is pretty much wrapped up, just brakes now. I have to change out upper ball joints once I put the engine in. The A/C delco's I bought actually tore so I purchased a more performance pair, with those tubular A-arms the travel is less than originals. Fuel lines & tank are in and fuel pump combo (the s10 assembly and LT1 pump) worked great. Now for rubber hoses and I think I will be able to put the bed on. Highly modified my gas tube, just taped up for now till I can do a mock up. I hope to do a 90 degree turn up from tank to inside my bed. I tell you guys the John Deere paint is awesome...spraying it or brushing it turns out a super job. I like the fact no mixing just go right out of the can, makes touching up little things a breeze. O yeah almost forgot I scored a 2wd disc brake s10 rear end from my local yard, pictures to come.

Re: Freddy's 52 part 2

It's tough stuff. I've used it for years. I was a parts manager at a dealership many years ago. We used to sell a lot of it. Best flat/satin hot rod paint out there.

Re: Freddy's 52 part 2

Ordered both sides of these from car and truck parts in Cali, I used them for many pieces on my '52 but man I going to have to murder this one to get it to fit right. Very disappointed for how much these bottoms cost. I hope the other side fits better.
