Do I trade?

Hey Guys,
Just wanted to ask if I would be an idiot for trading my 2000 Ford super duty F350 4X4 crew cab 7.3L diesel for a 1970 Chevy suburban 4X4 runs and drives. I really love my F350 I am the only owner and it's my daily driver, My daughter wants to drive my 1969 chevy p/u and I want a suburban. The suburban and my F350 are actually worth about the same, and the fords going down in value and the burb is holding steady or going up with some work to it, it does need some work to be as comfortable as my F350. I don't know?

Re: Do I trade?

Driving on Seattle freeways? That's an old rig, I guess it depends on the condition. On and off the brakes....are they drum or disc brakes. Smooth idle? I'd just be a little nervous driving it as a daily driver in that city (I lived there for 5 years).

Also, how is the 69? My 16 yr old drive the 89' K5....it does good but I'd be a little more worried for my girl driving the K5 in Seattle all the time.

What do both rigs look like?

Re: Do I trade?

Hey Jeff,
Ya we are south of Seattle, and my daughter does have a 2004 escape that she drives daily, she just loves the 69 chevy and likes to drive it, she doesn't really drive on the freeways. I actually do drive on the freeways often and that is a good point. I would have to figure something out there.

Re: Do I trade?

I drove old cars and trucks as DD for decades. I don't have a problem with it.

Re: Do I trade?

I drive my 72 daily in Los Angeles, and love it.

I was in a similar situation about 5 years ago . . . getting really tired of watching my 2005 GMC Yukon go down in value year after year. Sold it, bought the Suburban, and never looked back.

Im thinking the Suburban must be in pretty good shape for a straight across trade or your crew has half a million miles. Either way a solid 7.3 Powerstroke in a crew thats not beat to death and has under 250k miles is an easy $10k truck in Southern OR. Your fuel consumption will likely double as well with the Suburban. That may or may not be a factor, but still something worth considering.

Re: Do I trade?

I agree with Average Joe. It would be hard for me to part with the 7.3 truck unless the suburban was mint. Your super duty is not declining in value as bad as you think. There is a huge plum of people paying for nice 7.3s and they will continue.
