55 - 59 Front Fenders

Hello All;

I have a 57 panel truck that I;m trying to find more info on.
I have ft fenders an a grille.
I do not have the upper of lower fender supports.
To mock up the front end on the frame will I need these two parts?
I have the grille, will that give the support that I need to just muck up the front end.

Re: 55 - 59 Front Fenders

You'll need the upper and lower pieces, and core support to properly locate the fenders and hood for mock-up

Re: 55 - 59 Front Fenders

this is on a 58: core support attaches to frame. inner fenders attach to the core support and the firewall. fenders bolt onto the inner fenders and the firewall

Re: 55 - 59 Front Fenders

Hello;
Been trying to gather up part for the 57 panel project .
I'm getting ready for the "Pate Swap Meet" at the end of next month.
Hope to find some parts for the project.
The project is for my sister.
She just told me that she will have to work another year.
So that give me some extra time to work on the project.

Re: 55 - 59 Front Fenders

Hi Tim
Not sure what year your truck is as the hood doesn't look like a 57 and can't tell what the fenders are. 57 has different hood and fenders than 55/56.
The core support is the same but the upper and lower grille bars are different.
Here is a link so you can see what fits and what you need.

Re: 55 - 59 Front Fenders

you should get a FAM (factory assembly manual) it shows all the where and how to assemble the truck

Re: 55 - 59 Front Fenders

here are a couple of pics of my 57 gmc rad support area and a pic from ebay of a front clip showing the rad support and inner fenders etc. there are 2 options for rad supports, one like mine or one that is more like the previous model of trucks, the AD series, that has a U shaped center section with fillers on each side to get the same shape as mine in the end. mine is the same as a chevy rad support so more common to find the parts you need.

Re: 55 - 59 Front Fenders

Hello;

Dsraven;
It is a 55 hood,have the ft support like(#1),have both inter fenders,ft grille.

Ogre;
Where can I find a FAM (factory assembly manual)

Kim57;
It is a57 panel.
T Y
I still need to find the upper n lower grille spreader bars.

That is the reason for the trip to "Pate" the end of next month.

Thinking about trying to pancake the 55 hood for the panel.
Have not found any good pillars for the cab either.
The pillar from "Classic" are like $350.00 each.

Still trying to get enough part together before starting the build.

TP

Project looks great. FYI check ptc's thread he did a great hood pancake.
57 hoods have two ridges, and the front fenders are slightly different.

Re: 55 - 59 Front Fenders

NC;

Hello;
The hood is a 55. I think I ant to try to pancake it.
I know the 57 had two ridges.
The 55 is the only hood I have found so far.
I have two cabs, bout of them had rust at the bottom edge of the pillar.
One is a complete cab,so going to keep it for measurement when I replace the floor,steps n pillars.
Will be getting a bead rollor soon for the project.
I will try to find better fenders,57hood,grille bars at the "Pate Swap Meet" next month.
Trying to get enough parts together before starting the build.

available from various vendors, the FAM is chevy, but most of your truck is chevy

Re: 55 - 59 Front Fenders

what pillar part are you looking for? front lower hinge pillar? thats what usually rusts out, but if that is the case look harder in the whole area because there is likely more to it than just a single hinge pillar. take off the little vertical panel just inside the door, on the rear of the kick panel by the door opening, and look down inside there for rotten areas. also take the grille off the floor evnt, open the vent or remove the flapper door and look inside the cowl through the opening. maybe use a mirror to see deep inside. there is a drain at the bottom visible when the fender is foff or from underneath. it plugs and then water builds up till it spills out of the floor and starts to rot stuff out. floor, front cab ounts, hinge pillar and related parts attached, step and rocker etc. pretty common and lots of guys just replace the lower parts instead of the whole pillar. also check the eyebrow area above the windshield for soft spots and areas above the roof gutter.
