Just ordered my Holley Sniper EFI....

I plan on keeping the gas tank in the cab, does anyone have any feed back on the Holley Sniper?

Re: Just ordered my Holley Sniper EFI....

Congrats! I've swapped EFI on to 2 cars now and will make my 68 #3. The only carbs I have are on my lawnmower and snowblower.

I ran an electric pump with the tank in the cab on a previous truck and it was only audible on initial prime or on cold mornings. Like less than 30deg. When the engine was running I couldn’t hear it unless it was cold out, and even then it was a background sound.
It was a Holley pump made for their old tbi system. It was mounted to the rear cab support with the supplied clamps. The pump itself had a foam sleeve around it, it came with it.
If it was on the frame it would be even quieter.

Re: Just ordered my Holley Sniper EFI....

I just installed a Sniper on my 70 last weekend and love it. I bought an edelbrock sump and mounted it under hood on radiator support. I was worried about frame mounted pump getting over heated and failure. I really like the Sniper so far.

Re: Just ordered my Holley Sniper EFI....

So can you elaborate on the sniper? why did you end up going with this kit over some of the others? just how simple is the install? and did it perform as expected? looking to possibly do this as i need a new carb anyway.also want to retain in cab tank for now.

Re: Just ordered my Holley Sniper EFI....

Just recently installed one on my 72 Camaro. Install was super easy. The hardest thing on my install was finding a good place to install the O2 sensor. Instead of drilling a hole in the headers and using the plate that comes in the kit, I bought a piece that bolts to the collector and had an O2 bung already in it, then just bolted my exhaust pipe to that and poof, done.
If your using the stock tank and don't want to modify the sending unit, just purchase one of those tanks for under the hood, it holds the fuel pump, fuel and makes it easier to feed the sniper unit.
It would have been really nice if they made the temp sending wiring a little longer, I had to use the drivers side head sending unit and the wiring just barely made it.

I chose Sniper because some write ups on some of the others that I read about said that tech help was not good. Don't know first hand how true this is. Sniper kit was super easy to install and tune. I also left stock tank in cab for now. Idles perfect and throttle response is great.

Re: Just ordered my Holley Sniper EFI....

The Holley Sniper systems seem like they are fantastic. I was doing some research on these myself. Well thought out product. Combine this with an electronic distributor and you can damn near tune an old 350 Chevy to the same perfection that you can a new LS3. 2 bar map sensor in there for boost. MAP sensor. O2’s. Wideband. Great stuff. I tune my own supercharged LS3 Camaro and was thinking of doing a LS swap into my new 67 c10 project. But after seeing this Sniper system...I have to admit that I’m intrigued about going traditional SBC with it.

Re: Just ordered my Holley Sniper EFI....

I agree cc my next step was going to be LS motor if Sniper didn't pan out. So far so good. I installed Sniper last week and truck is in shop getting 700r4 trans installed. Can't wait.

FRCvette: Have you driven the truck since you installed the Sniper? How did you run your fuel pump?

Re: Just ordered my Holley Sniper EFI....

Yes I have been driving the truck everyday until Friday when I dropped it at the trans chop for a 700r4 install. Ran great.

I installed edelbrock universal sump under hood of my truck. The pump is submerge in fuel. No need for return line from Sniper.

Thanks! Do you have a part number for the pump that you used? is there anything else I will need besides this pump and the Sniper kit?

Re: Just ordered my Holley Sniper EFI....

I think it was #3605. You can go to Summit site and type edelbrock 3605 and it will come up. You can also google edelbrock universal sump system and get lots of info.

Just some more info. With this unit you will not use pump that came with Holley. Your stock mechanical pump will feed sump which will feed Sniper.

Re: Just ordered my Holley Sniper EFI....

I have the master kit installed on my 70 Burb. I ran Swagelok stainless fuel lines down the outside of the frame rail, replace the included fuel filters with Summit AN style. Added a fuel pressure gauge, added an extended throttle adapter because the 1970 throttle rod was too touchy. Purchased weld in o2 bungs with plugs and installed on both header collectors for readings of both banks.

So far I had to send the throttle body back to Holley and they replaced the ECU. It failed and symptoms were 35.6 to 1 fuel ratio with reflash and replacing o2 not helping. Took 5 weeks on the turn around and missed the Livermore Car Show because of it...

Burb is back up and running, runs great, and have driven it to Idaho, Washington, down through Oregon with no issue.

The sniper forum is a good resource and you are welcome to ask me any direct questions.

So, if using sump, no need to buy the master kit?

Re: Just ordered my Holley Sniper EFI....

May I ask what type of intake manifolds are being used with the Sniper unit.
My truck came with a "Quick Fuel" system, that previous owner installed on a Dual Plane-Air Gap manifold, This system has never ran right, even after repeated calls to Quick Fuel. Hearing a lot of good about the Sniper system, thinking of going with this system.

Thanks in advance for your replies

Re: Just ordered my Holley Sniper EFI....

I purchased the complete master kit. Ive had mine on for a month now. Really Happy with it. Even started right up at -20 this morning. Only advice I was given was to run a 1 inch open spacer if using a dual plane intake. I ordered mine from the guy advertising on here and he had some experience with them and was very helpful with any questions I had before ordering it. I am using my stock fuel tank. Just ran the return to the vent on the top of the tank. Can barely hear the fuel pump run. I never changed anything on mine other than the warning lights on the display. Little display is very capable and cool to have hooked up if you ask me. That's the only advice I have. Put mine on in around 4 hours. I will definitely be ordering another one for my 2wd this spring..
