Slow drain is killing me..

I have been fighting this problem all year. I dont drive my truck every day. If it sits for a week, there is just enough power to give me one slow turn on the engine, then click, click, click. After three or four days, it seems to be around 50% power. It will usually start, but you can tell it is weak. I tried pulling fuses while my test light was in between the battery and the cable. I do know that if I pull the fuse labeled horn, the battery will last a few days longer, like maybe start after 8 days, dead in ten. I am thinking maybe radio. It is the factory digital unit. If I do not have the horn fuse in, the radio will click, and light up, but no music. If I install the horn fuse, the radio works just fine. It is driving me mad! Any other suggestions to try? Maybe it is something simple I am missing.

Thanks, Robert

Re: Slow drain is killing me..

with the test light connected as you describe was it lighting up? I assume that the answer is no by your post. Might unplug the alternator, and let it sit for a few days and see what happens

Re: Slow drain is killing me..

Sorry, ya when I have the horn fuse in it lights up for a split second, then slowly goes out. If I wait a second, then put it back on, it comes on once again. With the fuse out, I do not notice any lighing of the test light at all..

how old is the battery?
I think this is probably causing the issue on your other thread.

Re: Slow drain is killing me..

Horn works. The battery is around a year old. It is 640/760 amps. I am gonna play with it more this week, maybe take the radio out and check the connection or see if something funny is going on.

Thanks, Robert

I agree with Longhor man. This seems to be directly related to the other problem. Don't trust the load testers at the part stores. Go to your local shop and use theirs for a minute and really test the CCA

Horn works - so it's not the horn relay? Thought maybe it's draining off there, somehow.
