They were not cheap, I love them and consider it money well spent. I can see until the next day and when the brights are on, I see until next year LOL.

Great service too, as I had one where the low beam went out. They send me a new light, then asked me to send a photo of the one I took off with the power line cut from the transformer. Real nice guys out there.

A nice thing about the relays is that the voltage drop from the headlights is gone, and the marker and tail lights are brighter.

Ordered bed wood kit from Mar K. They have them 20% off through 2/11 guys.

I was gonna order it in next month but decided to go ahead and get it now even if I am not ready.

New crate motor on the way to replace former new crate motor. It appeared to have been dropped at some point and took out the intake manifold on one end and flex plate on the other. Should have the new motor at the shop Wednesday and the truck back in the garage Friday.

Sounds like I should start looking into that relay mod. My LED headlights are cheap & haven’t acted like they are giving me any problems, but I’d rather not stress the headlight switch. Plus, those Dapper units look closer to stock than the ones I have in now.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I do love my dapper headlights - looked long and hard on what I wanted to install for headlights. They are not cheap but that became a non-issue once I started to use them! I think they look fabulous... IMO they don't look silly or out of place. Just F'n bright as the surface of the sun ;-)

I installed all my LEDs (only the gear shifter bulb hasn't been switched to LED) and I didn't notice any real drop at night before I installed the relay mod. I just knew I wanted to do it - it just makes simple sense using relays and not running any extra current through all the wiring/dash switch.

I have on my list to do the same kind of relay mod for the starter too (have a M.A.D. kit already in my garage waiting to be installed).

Had spare fixed at Discount Tire - it went flat and they had put a short air stem on that did not come out of the Beauty Ring.

And.... a wash and detail so she is pretty tomorrow for the 1st visit to Wimberley Coffee & Cars!

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

.

Caught it on fire.

Yep...went to remove the valve cover, it arced on something which quickly fused that hot wire to ground. Within a few seconds I had fire in two different spots under the hood!

My brain was quick to pickup on events as things started to slow down...the smell of electrical burn, smoke...I start to see images of my burnt out husk of a truck...

Before I could stop it, my hand reached out and firmly grabbed onto a red hot wire and tried to yank it free which resulted in a pretty scary looking burn across my fingers but nothing much else. Then I got the battery post disconnected and used the extinguisher.

Now I've got some work to do!

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Glad to hear you saved your truck and didn't get hurt to bad.

I did some wiring myself this weekend. Focused on the Intellitronic electric dash gauges. Pretty scaring wiring it up to a Painless wiring harness and trying to sort out what wire goes where. Guess I will fined out if I did it right when I power it up.

Also, did a little metal work and got some used Vision Wheels 141 Legend rims.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Thanks guys...

About a year ago a video circulated of a guy having a small under hood fire with his square body on some street somewhere. He didn't have any way to put it out and so by the time a bystander brought an extinguisher, his truck was burning big time...far, far too late.

After that, I started carrying a small one in the cab and make certain to keep one around the house/shop.

My hand injury turned out to be a little more severe than I first thought. D@mn a red hot wire can do some damage! Don't know why I wasn't wearing my gloves.

Yep, you brought "well grounded" to a whole new level.

I'm glad you saved yourself and the truck. I hope your hand heals well.

I see they rolled the registrations for C10's in the park to 2021, and of course are sold out. Did you register?

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I'm nearly done refinishing truck parts off my project. Really I send most of it out. This is part of the last batch of cold processed Cerakote. Beyond this and thats, all hinges, the steering column under the hood & drive-line were done this way. The coater says Ceracote does real well with moving parts, time will tell.

Color or shade changes under light and that. They're black satin, but by this picture they appear more gray to me.

Weg92f sorry for your misshap, Let this be a reminder to always disconnect the negative ground wire from the battery. We all have done this at one time or another and gotten away with it. Me too.

Yes. I know two lefties who have melted their wedding bands onto their fingers while working on vehicles. I don't wear mine when working on anything mechanical.

My kids ordered my kit from summit . Mar-k had a Christmas sale 20% to but it was still cheaper paying full price with $ 50 shipping . I think shipping was upwards of 300 with Mark- k . And the kicker is it was dropped shipped from Mar-k but under summits shipping agreement with UPS frieght .

Side note summit will honor the 20 off but you pay the full shipping

Shipping from Mar K wasn’t much more than Summit and with the discount it was cheaper from Mar K. But I’m only about 5 hours from the factory.
