It was suggested the other day that an S-10 5spd tranny would bolt up to my inline 6, not sure if that is also true with your setup.

I'm using a Saginaw 4-speed from a 82 Camaro. It's the same length as your three speed. No driveline mods are needed. With a Hurst shifter, and the linkage kit designed for our trucks the shifter position is far enough forward to use it with a bench seat if you desire.

the trans is a t-5 and ifyou go that routeyou need to find one that is a world class that is out of a camero and was origionaly behind a 350. the ones in the s10 are non world class and do not stand a snow balls chance in hell of holding up behind a real engine.

I too have a saginaw 4-speed from an 80's camaro, it fit in perfectly both in length and number splines on the input shaft...

This is not entirely acurate.
They NEVER sold a camaro nor firebird with a 5 speed and a 350. (from 82 to 92...3rd gen f-body car) If you wanted a manual, then you had to get a 305, or smaller.
Not all 305 camaros had the world calss tranny.
The world class one...the strong one, is only rated at 305 ft pounds, and when you start adding heavy vehicles, (truck) then it get stressed even more.
The garden variety T5 is only rated at 280 ft pounds.

Now, with all that being said, putting one of these trannys behind an inline 6 or a 307 would be awsome, esp with a 3.73 or 3.40 gear. If you had a stock 350, and didn't push it very hard and didn't haul/tow too much, then it would probably hold up for a while, however, they are still fragile, and spinning the tires in snow or on wet pavement and getting sudden traction is murder on these trannys.

The parts are out there to build a T5 to pretty much any level you can afford. I have pretty strong one in my Mustang. It cost some bucks though. There are some 5 liter guys running under 10 second quarter miles times with a T5.

I'd imagine Shifty's little 250 inline wouldn't pose much of a challenge to the stock S-10 T5 though.

I've got some weird crossmember in mine, apparently. Everyone keeps telling me it's odd (there are pics in my "engine swap" link below).

Do the camaro 4spd and s-10 5spd trannys have multiple mounting holes to fit diff't types of x-members?

Thumbs up

A Muncie 4 speed from your late 60's or early 70's passenger car will be a bolt in for you. It will also take the abuse.

Regards, Jody

Thanks for the help. Not sure what to do yet.I have a rebuilt 700r that came with the truck. So I'm still figuring what route to take.don't let me hold you up on the purchase. Our big swap meets are coming up (Spring Carlisle) and I'll be their selling Goodmark parts for my buddy.I'm sure I will come across one later when I make my mind up.

Thanks
