Wink How many of you can say, you've shifted with one of these ??

I was going through some stuff tonight, I came across this. I have had this one since some time in the 60's.

Man what we keep.

Thumbs up

RON WOODGEARD, I've never shifted with that particular style knob but still have a 8 Ball shifter knob & Grenade shifter knob floating around here that I used in the 70's and early 80's. LOL am I getting old I know we have members here that weren't even born yet when I was shifting with them.

I have an 8 ball also, It's just not as old..
I even remember buying this one At Thrifty Auto Supply on Division Street in Spokane Washington. I think it was 1968.......

Just finding it again, puts me back, into my 57 Ford Ranchero with a 312 3 speed.

"IF" (now that's only an IF) If I were to put it on Say E-bay, What do you guys think it would go for?? Now that I found it, I'll probably put it on the 70 when I get the Stick in.

Hey Paul,

If you're getting old by having these in the 70's, 80's, Then what am I???
Don't ya dare type it !!! :p

That thing ain't worth crap on e-bay! You should put it in your truck. It would at least double in value

That's an old MOON shifter knob. We used to call them an Iron Cross shifter. Buddy of mine had one on his Z28 back in the day. I'm sure you would be very surprised at what it would bring on eBay. Highly collectible item. SC

I don't have a picture of what I used to shift with (on my car), but my '54 Ford column shifter had a chromed steel 2-inch ball that weighed so much you had to hold it in 2nd gear or it would fall into neutral. This little experience is from my memory vault, dating back to '64-65.

Maltese Cross....that's what that is. Some DID call it an Iron Cross, but it is really a Maltese Cross. Very popular icon from the 60's. Saw a bunch of them airbrushed onto T-shirts, and the like.

If you had a four-gear, you could use the knob like a Retro thing.

Hey Ron, Rather a bit off topic (I do remember that type of shift knob) but I have a Hurst T-handle aluminum shift knob on my ' 71 4x4. Used to be on my ' 65 Impapa SS I sold in late ' 73. Sold hell, gave it away practically! For those of you who remember the Arab oil imbargo then gas was predicted to go as high as 75-80 cents a gallon! Impala had built 327 w/ 300 horse double hump heads & 2.02 valves , Carter AFB, Muncie M-21, 3.85 posi, buckets, console, factory tach and duals out to the rear. Still get misty eyed when I think about it. Memories of our youth.

Ron, that's great you kept that. Had a poolball in my Dart in high school. Saw a vendor last summer that had alot of Cal Custom acc. Looked like he bought a store out, seen the old wood 4-speed knobs etc. I've got a oil pressure gauge that is least 40 yrs old. My dad had it in a 55 Chevy, my buddy used the other day to cross-check his and worked like new. Love the old stuff!!!!!!

That is cool, Ron!

Iron crosses are all but gone in the hot rod world. But if you don't mind looking around, biker shops have all kinds of maltese/iron cross parts: tail lights, mirrors, valve stem caps, all kinds of stuff.

I had a regulation baseball that I drilled and stuffed a piece of threaded pipe into that I used as a shifter for a lot of years. The stitching finally gave way and it sadly fell apart. Drilling a baseball isn't easy, or fun. But after I finally got it all figured out it looked darned cool.
