Pretty decent looking 1977 Blazer Chalet-denver craigslist

I saw this listed on the local Denver craigslist and thought some of you might like to take a look. It is a 1977 Blazer Chalet. Looks pretty nice.

Re: Pretty decent looking 1977 Blazer Chalet-denver craigslist

I emailed the seller to get the serial number off the back of it..... no response yet.

Here's a similar thread from a while back on the same general subject, with reference to an auction ending today for one of those: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=220747

Re: Pretty decent looking 1977 Blazer Chalet-denver craigslist

Speaking of the one with the auction ending today, its link is here: http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/105...spagenameZWDVW

And while I'm at it, some others that still have functioning links as of right now:
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/ant/car/360885137.htm
http://ww2.collectorcartraderonline....8/89403858.htm

As I mentioned in the other thread referenced above, I don't get a dime for promoting these, I'm just a Chalet owner / nut who wants to see these go to an appreciative home....

Re: Pretty decent looking 1977 Blazer Chalet-denver craigslist

Camper-only, for those of you who have just the Blazer that's been upgraded to your liking:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1977-...spagenameZWDVW

And the ultra rare version, the GMC Jimmy Casa Grande, only 225 of these came out of the GM factory:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GMC-J...spagenameZWDVW

I alerted the sellers of this one NOT to suggest the possibility of the camper being separable from the Jimmy under any circumstances, as they did in their listing. The camper by itself has no particular value except to someone who wants to 'build up' the ultimate Chalet, the one the factory should have made ....

Re: Pretty decent looking 1977 Blazer Chalet-denver craigslist

Russ, I've been very tempted at getting a chalet. I even made a poor attempt to convince the wife. She's not sold on any pop up type truck camper. I've wondered about the sleeping arrangements for the "big and tall" type. I'm not seeing a whole lot of space for a 6 footer to sleep comfortably. And sleeping in the optional bunks might be hazardous to my heath if they can't hold my wieght.

So what's it like to actually use one of these rigs to camp in?

Re: Pretty decent looking 1977 Blazer Chalet-denver craigslist

Can't actually say, unfortunately, as mine was not yet roadworthy for long distance trips this summer. I had to go tent camping out of my VW hatchback once again, and used "hired help" to go high altitude touring, as mentioned in this thread post #8 http://expeditionportal.com/forum/sh...428#post100428

I am 5'10" and was skeptical I could lie down side-to-side in my Chalet's folded down dinette. The cushions, even for being 30 years old, are just my kind of soft & comfortable, so I tried it out one afternoon and my feet and top of my head just miss the walls. I'd have to say anybody taller would be forced to lay diagonally on the thing.....

Chalets sold in dismal numbers, probably in part because you really have to be a cozy family that doesn't mind tight confines, if your wife & kiddies all go with you. And remember, the restroom for these is "behind that tree over yonder".

Doug W. aka "1976K5CHALET" is also a member of this forum, he has used his up until quite recently as a home away from home as he travels from one oil drilling operation to the next, so he is an authority on how truly comfy or annoying these are.

Ya gotta be a nut to love these, mine will be great when it is 100 % reliable simply because it has 4wd, better ground clearance than my car, and significantly better living conditions than my tent. And unless I can convince my ladyfriend to come along, I'll be the only one camping in it.....

Re: Pretty decent looking 1977 Blazer Chalet-denver craigslist

Here's the latest one on eBay - for those of you who don't know, all the of '76 Blazer Chalets and GMC Jimmy Casa Grandes were all painted the same color combinations, the difference between the two was the vinyl stripe arrangements. I believe this one has 'custom painted' rally wheels, since I don't think the GM factory offered anything other than silver colored rallys on these.....

Entertaining how several of these are all for sale around the same time - throw this Boise ID Craigslist ad onto the heap:

More pics of that mega-lifted Chalet at this other thread, last I heard it was still for sale in Fredericksburg, VA, #1 on my list of more than 50 for sale around the country that I keep on my Google map. Rough economic times lately means my easily remembered lists of 5 or so from a couple of years ago has ballooned so big that I have to have a map to see where they all are.

a few pics of trip to Odell Oregon, Hood river county fair, then down to oregon coast. First 2 pics down on the river in Twin Falls, the last one where we spent the night at sawmill in Odell. More pics to follow, this is not on a 77, 78 chassis but an 85 that I put 8 hole gear under it.

Re: Pretty decent looking 1977 Blazer Chalet-denver craigslist

Am I the only one thats really using one, most people have these RVs that are not 4x4s, they are to big to really have a good time. Never owned a blazer before, this thing will turn on a dime, put 3100 miles on ours and never had a more fun trip, the wife keeps poking me in the ribs to get started on the 4bt and NV 4500 repower so we can use it more often. As far as room if we just pull over to spend the night we don't even raise the top, stay warmer that way and if its to hot then raise the top. The big plus with the Chalet is if you have someone giving you trouble in the middle of the night within secounds you can be behind the wheel and leaving. Even when you are heavily armed its better to drive away. Try that with a regular popup camper where you are trapped in the back and can't drive away.
