I don,t have her turned up very much YET waiting for the other turbo to get done and the time to put in the other Ijectors.
It is a 1/2 ton it only setlled down 1.5 in in a month.
She is a lot of fun to play with[the wife too].

Re: 72 C10 with Cummins

First you have to find the picture you want to display in your post. Right click on it and click properties.

Then highlight the URL of the picture and hit the Control key (ctrl) and the C key at the same time, this copies the highlighted text.

Then go back to your post and select the yellow button with the gray mountains in it, and a window will pop up. Place your cursor in the box, click, and hit the Control key again but this time with the V key which pastes the text that you copied earlier, then hit ok and you're done!

This works with nearly every picture on the internet, except those that are coded to prevent hotlinking as it's called.

I don't know about a faster fan, but making sure the flap doors in the heater box move all the way to their stops can go a long way.

Re: 72 C10 with Cummins

Any picts? I was going to do the dodge frame figuring everything was there and beefy enough to handle the diesel, setting a body over it wouldn't be hard, but if the motor install is easy then I'll keep looking for a 4X sub and just slide the motor in there!! PICTS PLEASE of the install and any progress picts while you were doing it?

Re: 72 C10 with Cummins

We took the turboed charged smallblock out and the 5 sp 2hr later the 5.9 and the 400th was sitting down in the frame.Didn,t have time to take any install pic. will try to use my buddys lift to take some pic from underneath.tae the exhaust manifold off and turn it upside down the turbo will clear the heater box just fine as you can see.
I,ll Pm you my phone no.

Re: 72 C10 with Cummins

I've got a '71 LWB with a body in pretty nice shape but the trans leaks and the engine's pretty tired. I also have a '991 QC 4x4 Cummins that I love so I've had this kind of swap in mind for a while, now. The thing I'm debating on is whether to go 2wd or 4x4. If I go 2wd, I'd just need to round up a 12-valver and an NV4500. If I go 4x4, I'm looking for a complete Dodge 94-98 that I can just do a body swap on. I'd love to see more pics of this conversion to help me decide which way I want to go. What'd you have to do to the front suspension to beef it up? I mean, these friggin Cummins weigh close to 1,000 lbs. and I'm thinking the 350 tops out at, what? 3-400 lbs.?

What did you do for motor mounts? Accessory brackets?

Re: 72 C10 with Cummins

The 350 is at 500lb.When I was in my hotrod days we put in a 454 with a 1271 blower with a pair of850 holley carbs and aircon, and a 400th. the front dropped almost 2" this one with the cummins has only droped 1.5" in almost 2 months the front sus, is all stock handles sweet.I have a 33gal.gas tank out of a sub, and the big batt, are mounted back by the tailgate one on eachside launches from a stop sighn hard. we get alot of looks at red lights.it is alot of fun when a guy roles his window down just to hear the noise.one person eaven got out of his car to tell me that my motor has a rod going out said he was a mechanic at a chevy dealer in the St.Louis I just laughed and told him what it was he just gave me a blank look as I drove off.

Those are the priceless diesel moments. I have a Turbodiesel Volvo nobody has heard of, with a 2.4L VW diesel. I get
'You know your car sounds like its about to blow up?'
'Do you have oil in that thing?'
and stuff like that pretty often.

Re: 72 C10 with Cummins

I just picked up a diesel power mag and low and behold a 12 valve hop up article in it. I want some smack down. I have a 2wd NV 4500 that I am considering a 205 and the Chevy 3/4 ton axles I have. I wanted to find a nice 90's 4X4 Dodge and just do the body swap, but beggars can't be choosey, this deal came along and I couldn't pass it up. As it seems the Chev frame will make converting to 4X4 easier. Dale, I'll give you a call when this project starts moving, as of now I am driving the dually!!

Re: 72 C10 with Cummins

Did I understand you when you said that the turbo was the one from the small block?

Ive found a 94 4wd dodge cummins that I want to do a body swap on for 4k.
I would like too keep my truck as low as possible though, so this seems like a good idea! (its almost dragging frame right now)

What did that 12v cost you?

Re: 72 C10 with Cummins

Dale are these engine's EFI or MFI? What all is involved in the hook up and I assume the Dodges also came with AOD's right? Are they any good for a 2wd tow vehical? Thanks for any info you might have.

Re: 72 C10 with Cummins

All the Cummins Engines are direct injected diesel fuel into the combustion chamber.
Up to 1988 1/2, the fuel system is mechanically controlled, needing only power to the injection pump to run. Newer trucks use a computer. In factory form most need a tach signal, or they shut down.

Dodges come with a weaker Getrag 5 speed, stronger NV4500, or even stronger NV5600
or a 4 speed auto that has the same issues as all work truck autos.
Grumman GM step vans have a 4 cyl version of the same motor, and use a TH400 or SM465.

96-98 3/4 ton Diesel Dodges with a stick shift can get 25+ MPG, and put out
Quote:
Power (SAE net)

* 215 bhp @ 2600 rpm - 49 state manual
* 180 bhp @ 2500 rpm - all auto. trans
* 180 bhp @ 2500 rpm - CA man. trans

Torque (SAE net)

* 440 lb-ft @ 1600 rpm - 49 state manual
* 420 lb-ft @ 1500 rpm - all auto. trans
* 420 lb-ft @ 1500 rpm - CA man. trans

Compression Ratio: 17.5:1
in stock trim, and 300HP/600FtLB is not extreme, so towing is not a problem but you may lunch a stock tranny after awhile.
