I got a new cab but it caused my butt to squeak

I ran across a good cab the other day, so I went ahead and bought it, but the price really hurt. The good thing is that it is totally free of any real rust. It has good solid original rockers and floors and roof. I can't find anything deeper than surface rust anywhere. It also came with the deluxe heater. My truck has the economy unit. The seat is pretty good, dash uncut, wiring and dash stuff all intact. I mean it's a great cab, I am super happy, it's just that the 400 dollar price hurt like hell to pay. What happened to this stuff being cheap ? Parting with that money caused me to squeak a bit when I walk.

I figure I will clean it up real well, POR15 the surface rust and run it.

I got the door too. It's a straight up beauty. The door will need maybe an hour of repair to touch up some heavy pitting in the bottom.

Rust free original sheetmetal is hard to come by and generally worth the extra $$$... looks like money well spent to me.

Nice buy Kevin!

Patch panels will cost that much then you have to install them.. That was a good deal, especially for that year.

Yep, it is sad when that price is a deal, and it is one hell of a deal, Kevin. That was money well spent.

Great find Kevin. My bbw cab cost almost that much plus the patch panels. I have got to move back to Texas.

Ouch! But what are you going to do?

May turn out to be a great deal in the end.

Re: I got a new cab but it caused my butt to squeak

It's not the money as much as I just didn't like the guy at all. He's one of those big timers always talking about how that is a 1k dollar cab if he wanted to go to the trouble of selling it for that much. You know the type of guy who quotes ebay prices and such all of the time.

He advertised it for sale for a price, I gave him the price and all he could do is rattle on about how he was selling it too cheap. Plus, he didn't come up with the tractor to load it for me like he promised, so I had to do it by hand with a come along and boards.

Oh you mean he is the kind of guy that is so uncool that he has to make stuff up to seem cool. I have run into some of them and they lose my attention as soon as stuff I know of comes out of their mouths and I know it is not possible.

Re: I got a new cab but it caused my butt to squeak

That big old cab on that teeny tiny trailer... THAT would make my butt squeak! Do you know what year it is? I see it's got the dual master on the firewall like mine, one side is clutch the other side is brakes. I read that they switched to a mechanical linkage clutch in 63 but my 63 GMC has a hydraulic clutch.

Re: I got a new cab but it caused my butt to squeak

It's a 62 cab with hydraulic clutch. I'm going to convert it to mechanical clutch linkage though. I already have the stuff to do it. It looks like I just have 1 big hole to cut through the firewall for the rod to go through.

Nice score. I'd say you paid a fair price considering the lack of rust, good door, and windshield. I need that door by the way. Can I have it?

Re: I got a new cab but it caused my butt to squeak

I went ahead and threw the cab onto the truck and slapped some sheetmetal on it to get a little motivational progress. Sometimes I have to do that just to see the potential and keep working on it.

What a pain to do by yourself with only an engine hoist to work with.

Re: I got a new cab but it caused my butt to squeak

Oh quit your winning and complaining. I paid $1200.00 for a Southern rust free cab ( going price around here) with primered spots over original paint, to help prevent the surface rust from spreading. Had the cab sandblasted only to find the guy had puttied the floor and had sanded it smooth. Holes and dings in the roof. Floor pans inner and outer rockers will have to be replaced.

Never be in a rush to buy even if it's a 6 hour drive back home. Douggghhhh! right Homer!

I don't care who ya are, that's funny right there.

BTW, 400 AMERICAN dollars?....you didn't buy it, you stole it. If you ever doubt it, just ask yourself, "can I build it for that?". Pro'ly not.

I think that was a decent price for what you got......including what appears to be a good windshield.

Yeah I know you should be able to buy a whole truck for that but that $400 truck would be full of rust too.

That's pretty clean for $400 & I'm around the corner. I know you do your own stuff, but your time is worth something too.... Think of the amount of time you just saved your self & that squeak should all but disappear (Beano will take care of the rest if it's not all gone) .

Where did you pick it up at?
