Cool

That should give you everything you need for the front. How did you make out finding a rear end?

Re: 64 1ton (delivery day)

still looking, every time i think i have found something it falls thru. either i get there and the gear is not what i was told on the phone, or the guy will tell me oh it a DRW and i get there and it's not, so the hunt goes on.
but i will find what i need, just take my time, as always if you get in a hurry it will just cost me more money, and i have plenty to do anyways.

do you have any info on converting either a Dana 70 or a 14 bolt from SRW to DRW, and i thought i read that you can use the DRW hubs from a 14 bolt on a dana 70, and if so what else would you have to change. i know where i can get a dana 70 with 354's but its a srw.

Re: 64 1ton (delivery day)

I don't know exactly what all needs to be done to convert a SRW to a DRW, as I have not done so. I would imaging, the hubs and drums and possibly the backing plates. I do know that there are 2 different widths for the DRW. There is a narrow one for the Cab and chassis trucks, and a wider one for the dually pickup bed trucks. There was also an option of bigger brakes.

Is your engine just hanging out up there by itself?

Re: 64 1ton (delivery day)

No, i have a piece of steel running across the frame supporting the eng.

man i'm sore today, i think i will just clean things and get ready for the install on like thursday.

after a month away from laying on the ground turning wrenches this getting down and up and up and down wears you out LOL

but i'm excited to get going, once i get the X-Member in then i get to install the stuff i got from you.

have a great day

Re: 64 1ton (delivery day)

I have done a SRW to drw conversion before. It was a gm 14 bolt rear axle. To my knowledge the 73-87 1-ton vintage rear axles for Chevy came in three widths. Narrow (1- ton drw) mid (1- ton SRW same as 3/4 ton) and wide ( Dana 70dually pickup).

If you have a SRW (3/4 or 1 ton) rear axle you can use it as long as the spring perches are the correct spacing. Al you have to do to make it drw is add longer wheel studs. Now with that being said you will not have as big of brake drums as a 1-ton drw of the same vintage, but I bet the smaller drums are still bigger than a 66 drw axle.

Hope that helps

Re: 64 1ton (delivery day)

Thought I should clarify two points,

I did this on an 80 Chevy 14 bolt SRW (3/4 ton) added longer studs and bolted on dual wheels

The final product will be wider than a cab and chassis axle but narrower than a dually pickup, which in your case shouldn't make a difference since you have a flatbed.

Re: 64 1ton (delivery day)

well today i did the front brakes, pulled the old Master Cyl. yanked the old column and mocked up one from an 80's motorhome, i will still need to make it longer but that should not be a big issue, and trim some sheet metal to make it all fit good, but i'm still waiting to see if i can get the column from the truck i got the crossmember from, if anyone has used a column from a motorhome please post some pictures so i can see
how it worked out.

thanks.
