700R4 and TH400 Torque Converter?

Does anyone know if the Torque Converters from the TH400 and the 700R4 are the same? I bought a new one for a TH400 I have and I would like to use it on the 700R4 if it will work.

Thanks for any help.

No it will not. The 700R4 has a lock up torque converter and the TH-400 does not. You will need to buy one based on the year of your trans too. I found out the hard way that different years of 700R4's have different spline counts on the trans input shaft.

It was kind of late when I wrote this question and as soon as I posted it I knew it was a stupid question. I have installed 700r4's before so I should have known that!!LOL Anyway Im thinking about putting in a new one just for safe measures. This Engine is going to be putting out about 350HP Which to most probably isnt a lot but it is for me. Anyhow thanks for answering the question. I will count the splines before I go get the Torque Converter.

Re: 700R4 and TH400 Torque Converter?

I have a '75 GMC motorhome that the transmission went.
It's a TH400 and there is a good deal on a 700R4.
Should I convert to the 700 and would it be costly ?
Anyone ?

There's a reason 700R4/4L60 was a transmission for 1/2 ton pickups and cars. It was not used in 3/4 ton and higher.

edit, I would say no way
