Trust me I know!! I've had my cluster out about 15 times! I actually added an older style tach/fuel gauge combo to mine a few months ago.

Yup it takes no time! I pull it out to adjust my drac mod when I change tire sizes and when I swapped the 91 gauges in and when I added the tach.

dman1982 05-20-2014 10:58 PM

Re: 5.3 swap build so far

ya i used, I'm going to put another one on the back of it, its doing some rattling around in there and i can here it, if i can't get a zip tie in there I'm going to clamp it down

it was one of the big ones, about a 1/4 inch wide or so...do you think that is a little close to your hood springs?

Re: 5.3 swap build so far

I checked the clearance today n its good...I cant move the pcm too much as the wiring is kinda short so where its at there in da pic is as far as I could put it. im running dbc

Re: 5.3 swap build so far

you could make a mount on that corner where all that room is right by your ecu or that green open spot on your firewall

ivorton74 05-20-2014 11:24 PM

Re: 5.3 swap build so far

my buddy was sayin something about using a spacer to mount it...not sure what kinda spacer hes talkin about though

dman1982 05-20-2014 11:25 PM

Re: 5.3 swap build so far

me either, maybe a spacer to suspend it from the wheel well, but that would get closer to your hood hinges, too bad your wires wasn't longer...youd have more options

ivorton74 05-21-2014 12:09 AM

Re: 5.3 swap build so far

I think I can still mount it on the firewall...ill have to check it again.

Re: 5.3 swap build so far

It's interesting to see how y'all are mounting the pcm. I was going to try and mount the oem holder off my 2001 donor onto my fender well... I wish the oem wiring harness was longer so I could mount inside the cab. However, this isn't a show truck so I will mount where ever it will reach too. Would be nice to mount it and make it look just like the 2001 would when you popped the hood.

Re: 5.3 swap build so far

I was going to mount mine in the cab on the trans tunnel but I changed my mind...I didn't feel like drilling another big hole in my firewall. I was going to also get the factory pcm mount but then I got the idea from dman1982 to use the plate for the cold air intake to make a mount and its workin out great...saved some cash right there too
