I was able to put some work in on the truck over the Holidays. I fabricated bumper brackets, shaved mounting holes, to a a smoother looking bumper. Now I have to find a good chrome shop.

I roped in my rear barn door glass today. What before was impossible with the cheap generic rubber seals was easy with the quality units:

I think a chrome bumper would look great up there. not too much bling, just the right amount.

Given that color, I think a silver powder coat would look super.

I wonder if a chrome wrap would work on a bumper?

I don't know about the "wrap" I guess they can do it.

Gas Monkey Garage chromed an entire car with a wrap. Well, if you can call a Ford Fairmont a car ;-)

I got out to work on the truck, WHOOO HOOOO!

The rear axle housing got de-oiled (basically, needs a bit more) and the heater got pulled apart. The only problem being I can't make the motor turn. How the hell do you wire these things? It has four wires, one going to each brush and one going to each coil, how do you hook this thing up?

I just can't believe how different we can feel years later about a Ford Fairmont, or a Pinto or a Vega, I dig them now. There is an awesome Fairmont that runs in the AutoCross at the Goodguys, VERY cool car.

I suppose you're talking about the one in the picture, but there's also a yellow one that fills the bill, belonging to EricTheCarGuy, who lives about 6 miles from my house. He shows up at GoodGuys, and has two YouTube channels (EricTheCarGuy and ETCG1), a SMOKIN' Fairmont (literally -- search for "Fairmont fire" on YouTube), and Car Craft just did a feature on him in their Feb. 2019 issue. Here's a link to one of his channels:

I got some clean up work on the rear end housing. Made covers with a little foam under it to seal off the holes in the housing so when I clean up the outside and paint it I don't get crap inside. I tapped the vent hole for a pipe fitting to plug it, so it's ready for some serious cleaning.

Think I will start that next year. :D

Over the last few days I prepped my seats and visors (with illuminated Corvette mirrors) for the upholsterer. I delivered them at the New Years Eve party just a couple of hours ago. With my winter cold that's about all I could muster over the last three weeks. I did pull a few more wires, but not very many.

I haven't done anything to the truck. this is really just a brag on an old truck. its single digit temps today. I went out and the truck fired right up without issue. didn't struggle, try to die or anything. fired and settled into its slightly higher cold idle and ran that way until the chole turned it down to its normal idle. is silly but it made me happy.

As we read this, we all had pictures in our minds of teenage days gone by, when we fired up our treasures and, with condensation wafting from the pipes, listened to them idle in the driveway...

Good stuff! Sounds like you need to write a book for us car guys. :D When I think of how much I drove my truck without any glass in it wearing grinding googles I have to smile. I would work on it 15 minutes and go drive it around 30 minutes! I still can't believe my parents allowed this, wow.

Such memories, what an amazing childhood I had, hope my kids feel the same way when they are my age. When I think of those times, with my parents now gone, our farm now covered in houses, it's very different. My times then, wow what memories.

It's inspirational how much you love your truck!

Today I reluctantly began engine disassembly. Really discouraging to take apart a running, driving vehicle and turn it into a pile of parts, especially since this is the second time I've torn it down for this same issue. Oh well, I have all winter to finish it, I probably wouldn't be driving it much this time of year anyway.

It sucks, but you won't be guessing anymore. You won't be worried about it failing, it will be done right. Then you will drive it's friggin wheels off!

My five minutes, and I do mean five minutes was spent trying to figure out this damn heater motor. Guess I need to see if I can find a new one, took measurements, and will commence looking.

I figured out the wiring on my heater motor, WHOOO HOOOO! Damn, I was stumped, but figured it out and it works. I thought the damn thing looked like new inside, geeeez. On to restoring the heater and making mounts and all.

I continued disassembly of the top of my motor. Last time I did this my back was hurting for a week from working bent over the fender so much. This time I'm limiting myself to an hour or two a day to avoid a repeat. Today I got the alternator and fan off and pulled the distributor. Tomorrow I'll have to go underneath to remove my freshly installed exhaust :-(
