Those turned out pretty good bud.

Re: Used Parts Build
Very nice. That little bit of time it took to make them unique definitely paid off.

Re: Used Parts Build
Safety lesson. Dont buy cheap stripping discs:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...416_150800.jpg Luckily it only hit my leg and I had some pretty thick pants on. Not much of a mark but damn it actually hurts quite a bit. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...4056648092.jpg Did some more work on my boxing plates. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...416_150815.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...416_184729.jpg Didnt get a shot of them welded in since it got dark. Started on my watts link http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...416_164804.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...416_173211.jpg |
Re: Used Parts Build

Re: Used Parts Build
Got a fair amount done today.
Welded in boxing plates from yesterday. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...417_123916.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...417_123922.jpg One side of watts link mocked up. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...417_155423.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...417_155433.jpg Other side mocked up. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...417_191403.jpg All done. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...417_191301.jpg Still need to add a bunch of support to the frame side mounts. Ran into a problem though. It cycles perfectly for almost all the suspension travel except the top 1.5''. It runs out of link on the driver side and pulls the suspension that way. I disconnected the driver side and it seems 2'' short. I'll have to figure it out later. |
Re: Used Parts Build
Is it set up at ride height? At ride hight you want the center link top and bottom to be facing at about 350°/170°. That way you don't get the pull.
|
Re: Used Parts Build
Not sure if I follow you. Are you talking about the pivot being pretty much vertical? The pic shows it at ride height.

Correct. You don't want the center link to be perfectly straight up and down. Or it could bind when the bars are parallel to ground are ride height. Also make sure the pivot point it centered between frame rails. That could be reason it pulls. |

How are you painting the inside of the frame? I would be concerned the inside would rust and run out leaving rust stains all over it. I have to paint/coat the inside of my frame where I body dropped it and my notch. Any tips? |

Re: Used Parts Build
If you're letting it patina I'd probably give it a few thin coats of BLO

Re: Used Parts Build
That is way too nice of a back half to let it rust!
Been getting home late and not able to make a ton of noise. Got the templates for my gussets cut out. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...421_222956.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...421_223949.jpg Finally got rid of that brace I was using and put in a proper crossmember. The brace was blocking the watts link a bit. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...420_194035.jpg I'll get it all cut out and welded in this weekend. |

Re: Used Parts Build
One way to speed up the rusting process on steel is to spray with a vinegar/salt solution. Once it gets to the patina you want, wash it down with water to get all the salt off and clear it.

Re: Used Parts Build
Little morning work
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...423_110614.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...423_113852.jpg Do you think I should run a tube diagonally from the opposite frame rail to the bottom of the mount? Its pretty long off the frame. |
Re: Used Parts Build
Got some more work done.
Cut and grind. Cut and grind... http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...24_1522210.jpg Crossmember gusseted http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...424_163245.jpg Matching ones for the shock mount http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...424_163252.jpg Welded the inside of the watts link mounts http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...424_163415.jpg Got the other watts link mount boxed in http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...424_163449.jpg |
Re: Used Parts Build
And got my watt link fixed.
Budget build right? http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...424_172635.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...424_172623.jpg Had to lengthen my arms by a few inches http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...424_183002.jpg I was more concerned about safety than looks so I sleeved the joint an inch in both directions with some 1.5'' .120 dom. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...424_185810.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...424_190700.jpg All clear http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...424_190706.jpg If you are going to **** up might as well make it look good right? http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...424_200845.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...424_200850.jpg And video of it in action https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXVEyTYzPEA |
Re: Used Parts Build
Your welds are looking good man!
|
Re: Used Parts Build
I liked your stick watts better. Should have put a plug inside to lengthen your bars. But live and learn. That's a easy thing that can always be replaced if you don't end up liking it.
