I started installing the dash components so i can move ahead on the wiring.
I made this LED turn signal and high beam indicator some time ago, so I took the PWM dimmer apart, extended the wires, and installed them. |

Donandal
I'm in awe about your modifications and execution they're fandamtastic. I need a few details on photo's 2-4, what they are and how they're to be used. Thanks in advance Keep on keepin on NC :hmm::hmm: |
Re: Plus Five
Thanks.
Photos 2 and 4 are pictures of a LED dimmer i bought, took apart, and lengthened the wiring to use for dimming the LED's I'm using for turn signal, high beam, and brake indicators. A typical headlight dimmer won't work to dim these LED's, so I used a pulse width modulator style I bought off EBAY for about $3.00. I'm using the rheostat to dim all four LED's simultaneously, thru their common ground wires. The dimmer knob will go just to the right of the steering wheel. The rest will be hidden under the dash. The LED's are just too bright for night time driving for my taste without dimming them. |
Re: Plus Five
Picture three shows both an original one, and the one I extended.
I bought two just in case... |
Re: Plus Five

Re: Plus Five
Not much to report.
I've been wiring up the Air conditioning and the headlight harnesses. While I was planning the wiring for the gauges, I realized I didn't remember which opening is for the speedometer and which one is for the gauges. I see pictures with the speedo on left, and pictures with it on the right. Any thoughts? |
Re: Plus Five
I have them both ways and I like the speedo on the right, my eye goes to it easier
|
Re: Plus Five
Not sure if this can help or not but here it is:

do you suppose the speedo was on the right because the steering column was slightly offset to the right from the factory? I centered mine when I put in the newer style column. |
Re: Plus Five
Others will certainly be of more help than me 'cause I'm still just compiling datas/info on AD trucks and preferably panels and suburban as I plan on buying one to make a restorod with it. I only happened to have a PDF on 1953 ADs. Should you need it, just drop me a line in private with your e-mail address so I can send it to you.
