You going with round or square top link's

Re: My 86 build

I think I'm going with 1 1/2" round tube, as soon as I figure out what I'm gonna do for an adjustable rod end, and the length of the bars I'll make them. I still have two 2'" bushings I can use, I might get two more and make my own rod ends.

Looking great! If I had a warm place to work, I'd be 'glassing my dash like you did. It's on my to-do list, lol.

I had those on my Neon about 10 years ago and loved them. A set of 20 ran about $30, IIRC. Probably less now.

Re: My 86 build

I need to pick up more round tube this week, and get workin on the upper links. Not sure on the length tho....prob gonna make my own rod ends as well, just need a couple more bushings.

mooseknuckles 01-24-2011 12:58 PM

Re: My 86 build

picked up some tubing and ordered another set of bushings today....it's almost cheaper to buy a whole set of six than it is to buy two...wtf?

I managed to get my upper link bars cut and welded up today, made my own adjustable rod ends. I think they turned out pretty good.

Re: My 86 build

I still have to build a crossmember to mount the links, need bag brackets and some link tabs which I'll prob buy, and then I'm pretty much done till we get some warm weather!

Re: My 86 build

Wow great build I like it, even cooler its your DD, nice 4 link your building, the ends look just about like what I bought , I did shorten my top bars by shortening the fixed end off because I couldnt find a tap to do the open end ,I like the dash too, I may try this also thanks for the pics

no prob....I was looking at rod ends, and was gonna buy some then I came across this, and thought that I may as well make my own...

73gmc454 01-29-2011 01:15 AM

Re: My 86 build

Oh yea that is slick ,did you just use a leaf spring bushings ? just weld an extra nut to the end of the tube instead of tapping it ?

mooseknuckles 01-29-2011 01:18 AM

Re: My 86 build

yeah thats exactly what I did...the ones I was looking at buying were the same.

Re: My 86 build

Cool thanks, good to know , just another one of those parts that if I was part of this group a couple years ago I would have just built myself , with the support and help of others ,

Re: My 86 build

I know what you mean...I wanted to build a c10 for about 15 years, then a couple of years ago I found this site, and last summer I bought my truck. and this site got the ball rolling.

Re: My 86 build

looks great for only having it a year , took me almost 10 years to get the courage to tune mine up !

mooseknuckles 01-29-2011 12:08 PM

Re: My 86 build

I've been building it in my head long before I got it!

Re: My 86 build

not much new lately... cut some pipe for my bridge. I still have to build a crossmember to mount my upper link bars from, maybe get that done this week......
