Thanks guys. That makes a lot of sense AD and 99. I hope I never damage my grill.

Hey lower50's,

About your Chevy vs GMC question... You might find this interesting, a GMC wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GMC_(automobile)

Here's a little snippet:
"Starting in 1920, GMC and Chevrolet trucks are virtually identical except for the grilles and nameplates, though their differences have varied over the years. From 1955 through 1959 small (less than 2 ton) GMC trucks with gasoline V8s were equipped with Pontiac V8s. Chevrolet trucks were marketed towards private ownership, while GMC was focused towards commercial uses."

ps, nice job on your floor.

Thanks John. Great article. So yup it comes down to part availability and personal preference. Cool thanks all.

yeah this is the reason right here. I got lucky with my 47 GMC, all the special GMC parts were there, and the guy even threw in a matching patina GMC tailgate. The only parts that were missing was the support brackets for the heavy 1 1/2 year only (47 to 48 1/2) GMC grille, but since it was mounting to an s10 frame they would not fit anyway. had the heavy duty 47 scooped front bumper too.

I still have the 53 GMC 248 replacement motor kicking around here too. tried everything to sell it, worth more in parts looking at ebay so thats what I will do.

I call them mustache trucks because the grille surround looks like a mustache haha.

Started the tear down. Finishing up a few welds on the cab. Getting ready to spray the lizard skin. I'll be doing a comparison before and after vid for temp and sound. Thought this looked bad ass.

So last Tuesday and Wednesday I sprayed the Lizard skin Acoustic and thermal insulation in the cab. Nice product easy to use and it really makes the cab solid. Carpet will eventually go over this.
I should have my before and after video put together by the end of the week.

After a nice camping Labor day weekend. I started building the bed lift and messing with the inner fenders that will lift with the bed. I'm using some stainless piano hinge across the front and 1.5"X 1/8" angle for the frame to hold the wood together. The inner fenders are trailer fenders.

Looks good lower50's. Great idea, everyone is interested in what the rear set up looks like.

Is this the air tank you have? Taking your lead I ordered two.

Thanks AD. Yes those are my air tanks.

Today I finished the bed lift and inner tubs. I could not get the hole fender to lift without hitting everything. So I cut the fender and made a front and back part that stay with the box sides. Then I made a filler piece for the inner part.

Here it is open and closed. The moving fender over laps the non moving fender by 3/4" and I will add come kind of seal. I made up the rear supports and added a guide pin with a rubber pad so it keeps everything tight and stable. Now I just have to figure out what I want to lift it. Me, air, gas shock.?

Re: My 52 GMC Build

nice work. So your lifting bed to fill fuel or adding fill through bed? I personally like having the bed removable so you can access air components etc, but if you gotta lift bed to fill fuel, than hinging it isn't a bad idea.

Thanks 99 I made it lift to access and show off at car shows. I am also going to have a trap door to fuel.

Today I made the rear splash pan. Took way longer than I expected but turned out great. You can see the big hole for the 7 pin trailer plug. The 3/8" holes just to the inside of the mounting bolts are for some L.E.D. lights I'm using for reverse lights.

Great work on everything. The lizard skin looked like it turned out great. Did you happen to get anymore pics of that crew cab IH that was at that show? That thing is sweet.

Thanks Dieselwrencher. Ya real happy with the way the Lizard skin turned out. Gives a water proof barrier too. Yes it was at the show. IH info: he swapped in the quad cab, it is IH from firewall forward and it did have my 7.3L idi. I'm not sure what it has now. Frame is 2X6X1/4" used as air tank. Also has a Dana 70hd. Same diff as I have.
