Not especially though I only know 71ish Chevy. Years ago an outfit was selling bumpers, they looked nice, I don't know if original. That reminds me to measure the gauge of the rear bumper I've got. I don't know if it's original but my fronts might be for comparison? If I remember right fronts are 3mm-ish.

They tried to tell me they pack their compressors well:lol: It's basically two universal foam pieces too big for the compressor:lol:, um, and the box is too big? hello! Can't blame them for attempt to save themselves I suppose, how about don't allow that to happen? I shipped it out in a large flat rate, padded tight :smoke: and wrapped the entire thing with tape. Better than........


After thinking about it and calmed down, no way I'm sending this back, assuming it still works;) Better to just touch it up. They can adjust their price accordingly, and no way I' paying to ship the condenser either way.

Had my window moldings professionally serviced for $500. Neat, they fixed one clip, the fronts only required polishing, and the rear moldings didn't make the cut, so I sent those to Texas for another shot at them. The guy says they'll be an easy task, see what happens, hopefully a pleasant surprise Vs I'll never see them again:lol: I'll be into window moldings 1K when done, how'd that happen, two sets cost me $50. Stroke of luck I needed the only decent molding I pulled off the rear.

I'm sending the compressor back after all, needs another look considering it drove through two boxes. According to them Fedex takes "2-3" weeks to act on a claim. So I'm not installing a compressor anytime soon. At least I can install the evap. case this weekend.

Get to install the heater box twice, I must like doing things times, happens all the time. I came up with an extra gasket and inquired, and a board member clued me onto a heater core gasket. Apparently cores are often installed without one, can't speak for factory, and I found mine without one. So I pulled the heater box, more curious than anything else, and forubd the gasket doesn't fit anyway. A dollar says it's such a negligible item dealers don't know they're worthless. Since I was there I used 3m strip caulk, and hopefully fixed a stripped hole for the blower relay, I want to use the #10, they're a cool screw, they have tall heads, I call em' high crown.

Wire harnesses ordered in January, some of those that were due in July are now due in September:lol::smoke: Missing is the A/C harness, so can't finish duct the duct either.

Everything is painted but an ash tray and column bracket, so can't install the upper steering and brakes nor the temp. controller.:sumo:

A lot of dependencies at this point. The details, and getting things done COVID comes as a surprise. Timing is everything, I was in the market for parts when it was far better, on the flipside there's the COVID ecomoney;)on the end.

Absolutely love the detail.

When I disassembled mine, the brake/fuel line clips that run inside the right frame rail were color coded depending on size (1, 2 or 3 lines). I was wondering if yours were all one color when you disassembled? I think you went with clear zinc?

Seems to me all my hardline clips were clear zinc with various stamps or not, like "P". They were refinished the same.

I had most clips, clamps and hooks type clear finished, even some that were phosphate like the small clamps for the evaporator core. Looking forward to seeing how that turns out in a day or so, at the moment I'm watching adhesive dry for evap. case gaskets;).

Interesting. I wonder if related to a different plant thing. Mine were marked with the P, or a size indicator. The single clips were black but all the others were colored. Even the parking brake had an odd turquoise color to it.

I won't swear to it because I had to remove paint from everything, my idea of clean 30 years ago. But from what I remember the tube retainers were at best black overspray. Krylon under the bed, Rustoleum under front and spray gun under the hood in freezing temperatures:lol:to be exact.

Some of my tube clips are blank, which I recall are a smaller version of one that is stamped, so I had a clue where & what.

What's that bracket for?

Thats one of two clips for the parking brake cable. Even the bolt was an odd color. The truck was undercoated early in life so it preserved everything nicely.

Ha, I knew I'd seen it someplace, it looks HUGE in your picture. That's a beautiful site your undercarriage and clip, super nice.

Speak of clips, I had all mine handled less these, one is still in a vinegar bath. So happens they're stamped with my first initials "AR" underneath the plastic coat, figures they'd be last.

Anyway, I nearly installed my evap. case today, but I don't like the looks of the new P clips, because the gauge is thick and I can just see it begging to strip a nut or stud. So I thought to look at the old ones, which I was never sure were original. Turns out they're thinner gauge, so I'm using them.

The evap. case took P clips for the AC & blower harness and vacuum right? Seems right. Edit: Yes, per assembly manual.


For what worth, if I need to refinish something small in a pinch I use Caldwell's black oxide, and their sealer too. Tell you what man, it won't hold up as well as a lot of good finishes, but to me it's by far better looking than zinc type finishes or retail oxide. Takes a wrench real well too, though I only use it for small.

Sorry, I am an idiot. The turquoise clips are for the speedometer cable, not the brake cable. Apologies for the confusion.

No apologies necessary. It's funny you should bring it up though, my notes have been wrong before, but in the case of the speedometer cable I completely missed the bolts & retainers.

My speedometer cable retainers could have very well been turquoise. Wouldn't surprise me, I think a lot of these components came in kits evidenced by symbols on bolts and such, and speedometer could have been one.

I won't swear to it, but these might be the original headlights. They sure last a long while, though I haven't done much night driving since the early 90s.

Preparing to install the steering column, I thought I'd ID this stuff in some pics. This is just one column of course, sure a lot of parts, and my old notes were a travesty:lol::metal: Less some hardware, I think this represents all of pieces between the lower shift linkage & rag joint.

Glad you mentioned it, I read someplace recently there is supposed to be one, but I've never seen it. Happen to know of a replacement?

I frequently use your build thread as a reference. I thought it interesting on the discussion about the brake pedal bump stop. My truck is/was fairly original with all the original bits. However, I did not have the bump stop for the pedal. I've since ordered one.

I just went and double checked. I do not see any indication that there ever was one. No witness marks on the pedal arm, or on the square hole.

I only bring this up because I know of all members, you would have documented the thing.

Here's a photo from an unrestored 72 with power brakes that I owned a while back. It didn't have the bump stop.

Just wondering the same thing. Ironically, I was waiting for the arrival of the bump stop to adjust my linkage. Snapped a couple of pics of pedal and backside (un-restored). If there was one, it was lost very early.

Yeah kind of OCD, thanks for your contribution:lol: Interesting thought above they perhaps weren't installed with power brakes. My 72 Super doesn't have one, no indication it did. Next time it's started I'll have to check if the pedal approaches the plate.

Subject of brakes I wanted to permanently install the push rod to the brake pedal tonight. It had a stover nut and cotter pin, same with my 72. But the nut stripped the bolt threads so I cleaned them up, they were bad, some suspicions that's common? I think I'll run with a hex & split washer to save the bolt from another stover nut though. Can always mark it I suppose, check for slippage. Some opinions split washers are useless. The manual shows both options, though I've yet to see a page where they ID a stover nut, they only read & appear as "nuts".

Manual appears to show lube that rod to the brake pedal too, at first I thought it meant bolt's shaft. Must see a lot of friction, think I'll grease both:metal:

Controversial:lol:;) I liked the idea of DOT5 but realized I'd have to switch out the combination valve I'm reinstalling, and the cylinders were still real good. That was until I saw this off a Corvette site.

I don't need a pic. but thanks Greg. Pjmoreland probably nailed it, they're for manual brakes, and a clutch. At the moment I'm pondering how to insert the steering shafts;)Not how they line up but so it fits, though I haven't tried yet. First thing I installed was the seal and retainer and inserted the jacket & shift tube assm. through the front. I tried inserting it from the cab and then installing the seal, but:metal: I don't have the patience for that, nor does the insulation.

For a guy who didn't know anything when I tore this down, failed to scribe for alignment:lol: for instance, the nice thing about the shafts and jacket is with a little study of the pot joint they only fit one way. The tab on the brake pedal support inserts into the jacket as a safety provision, but for orientation even better.

Burnout................Done with it.

Just kidding on the later, but yeah, when the restoration on the compressor goes no-where, a run around really, and send out trim for restoration only to find another packing error. Was already fried the day I received that trim back.

But the good news is they finally took the compressor back, and the dryer too another packing error. And the guy doing the trim is outstanding that end of things, so it landed his place, again, a few days ago.

Third time on that lower rear window:lol: - the first group were useless. The other two pieces which supposedly "can't be done" were returned better than new. The bottom as well until someone stepped on it:metal: 1K just for front & rear window trim, had it to begin with and the fronts and retainers were mint less a polish from start.

Learning a lot along the way though, looking for that perfect grease:chevy: I have far too many. I wrote up a "motivation list" with about 50 things I got to do yet beyond little stuff. 50 is nothing at all, none of them are especially major.

I nearly finished my steering when I tried to do it backwards so to speak:lol: part of the burn out right. All it was is you can't mount the intermediate shaft to the rag joint until after the spring is loaded:lol::lol::metal: So I'll finish that up with the guy helping build this for quick work come January, then we install the tailgate & doors, Yes!

Hopefully I get the compressor to install that end, then we throw on the rest of the clip & moldings & the balance is mine until exhaust. I'm still shooting for May 16th maiden start, I want to catch it before it's 51st B-day:smoke:

I have two NOS inner grilles, the painter, who has helped build this is painting the original:lol: Technically it's not original, I slapped that on about 1991. We're building her with the old outer grille, get her started, then I'll install the condenser, slap on the other grille, and the rest of a stage of bewilderment. I don't know about your builds, but I've anticipated lenses & simple cab components for a a long long while.

Master cyl is "due Feb".:lol: Vent windows due?

The cab's kickdown harness arrived this week. Ordered that in January. The intermediate and rear bed lights are still pending.........Crazy time to wrap up a build man. On the bright side the cab is nearly wired, just need to install a lighter & ignition yet.

Installed the oil line with the kickdown today. I lost the lower tube, and a few hours & clean-up later I found it where I looked the first time:metal: Came across the truck's shift lever and thought to polish it with cheap stuff. I thought for sure it was marked up in a few spots, but nothing to it, feeling blessed in that respect.
