Re: Project 30 years sitting
I haven't updated in a while. Done mostly piddly stuff and driving it quite a bit. I had to pay all my car insurance this month which tallied up to about 1000 :( which always puts a damper on your fun. Anyway...
Ive formed leaks at the transfer case and both front and rear pinion seals. I fixed the front pinion today. Was easier then I expected. Also figured out which axle ratio I had, which was different then I expected (3.73). Researching today on 205 rebuilds. Started a sputter in the engine, I checked today and I had a sp wire not on all the way, and another had wiggled its way around and started rubbing on the oil check tube. Replaced the battery as from day one, if this thing sat more then a week, I had to charge the battery. Even if the battery was dx'd, It still needed charged. I actually bought a new battery for my daily, and put its old one in this. I have all 4 composite headlights now, and all lights work and function properly .... which is actually a first on this project. There always seemed to be one acting up. Another hatch on the way to replace the one I broke a few months ago. Gravel guards and the last section of floor needed to finish floor holes on the way. |

Alright, got some parts in this week.
Gravel guards had a few rust spots and were ever so slightly bent. Got them fixed this week. Different hatch, needed work but a hell of alot less then the one I broke. Started working on it, should finish up repairs this weekend. Patch on drivers floor is my project for this weekend. Started on it last night. |

Appraiser came out yesterday. Luckily the guy had built a 69 truck for someone we know that has some great paint work on it. Anway, so now I can dig into this.
While its apart.. 1. new core support mounts 2. Rebuild transfer case(with paint) 3. Install the L31 cam I got a few months ago. 4. Paint driveshafts black rather then the silver I have them now. 5. Properly prime the whole front clip 6. Reskin and rebox the doors. 7. L98 corvette valve covers. I think by the time all thats done, its going to be time to put the roof back on :( |
Re: Project 30 years sitting
Finally settled with insurance company today. Got the transmission back from the shop today. Now I can start making some decent progress on this.

1. Transmission in.
2. Transcase apart, cleaned, painted. Started going back together and noticed one of the shift forks is broke. Going to call on some tomm. 3. Frame rails straitened back out. Going to wait on welding the one horn tell I have fenders on it and can make sure its all looking right. 4. Welded the last hole in my floor. It was above the transcase making it hard to access the back side with everything in. 5. Going to hopefully weld on "new" core support tomm. It has a few holes from things being mounted over the years. |

Alright, core support sanded down and a coat of the rust stopper primer.
Test fitting on the frame rails made the mount holes for my trans cooler Not able to find a fenderwell locally, so decided to see if the one I had could be hammered back. |
Re: Project 30 years sitting
Glad its getting fixed and back on the road. Did you do the cam yet?
|
Re: Project 30 years sitting
No Sir. I have to much apart at the moment and dont want to mix bolts, or have place to lay the parts I have to take off. Fingers crossed, I can start on that next sunday/monday.
Need to get transcase back together(waiting on shift fork) Get truck out of garage for a few days, and paint core support and few other pieces. Put it back in, and do cam. Then door box/skins then fender cup then prime tons of stuff. Or thats the plan... and plans are meant to get broken  |
Re: Project 30 years sitting
Do the cam before the radiator goes in. Need the room to swap them.
|
Re: Project 30 years sitting
Oh for sure! Thats why the cam wasnt in so far is I didnt want to deal with the coolant system. I told myself, "the next time the radiator is out". Well, its out and a whole lot more!!
The camaro, there are diagonal braces infront of the radiator that has to come out too :m6: |
Re: Project 30 years sitting
If this transfecase has to come apart again, I'm not doing it.
2 weeks, still not together. Have to reorder gaskets. |

Thanks Treachera, but quickly is out the door it appears. Still cant find the parts I want. Plus a few other things going on in the fall.
Luckly, parts order came in today and had the last gaskets for the transcase. Its finally together after 3+ weeks. Not sure if I will have time tell Saturday to get it in the truck. |
Re: Project 30 years sitting
Just got back from a road trip for parts.
Another grill (still not overly happy with it) some eyebrow hardware spare tire mount (30 bux, YES!) better right front fender repo inner fender :( huge home made brush guard. I feel sorry for anyone that pulls infront of me now! 72 owners manual then some small parts to resale. |
Re: Project 30 years sitting
Transfercase is in, and it moved about 5ft under its own power. Just enough to make sure it all seemed to work.
Test fit new fender, and fenderwell. All looked good. If weather holds out tomm, gonna paint new core support, fenderwell, and a few other parts. |
Re: Project 30 years sitting
So have the engine apart and working on cam swap. Forgot that cams have different bolt patterns for the front gear. No problem, I'll just go get one from the parts store. HA! No parts store list a timing set for an L31 engine! So looking up one for a roller Camaro. Cant find a single roller set. I know they made one cause I have one on my Camaro, but cant find one now!
|
Re: Project 30 years sitting
Engine is back together except a few vac lines. Working on parting out my parts truck. Then start working on sheet metal.
