I like an 1/8" toe in or so on the tread of the tire. You want some toe in. None or out and it will wander

Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.

Most all older trucks/cars were a 1/16" toe in.

Until you get to a truck with wider tires. Then 1/8" seems to be a standard. On big dump trucks and semis with super singles we'd go up to 1/4" or 5/16" depending on how the truck drove.

Then only 10 weeks and it will be time to pull all the boats back out again . Lol.

Wow, is that your entire summer season and then it gets to freezing again?

Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.

Not so much that's it's freezing but boat traffic deffinately goes down by 70% once the kiddies go back to school in September. True boaters will try for October but not too many try for that long I think I stored 55 this year and more than half are still in the shed.

What is your camber at? If its positive you will eat your tires with a aggressive toe in.

Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.

Me thinks it's at abt 4 deg. The front springs on this truck are dead flat so,I put some 4 deg shims in there when I put new springs and bushings in the front . The dodge this axle came out of had springs that were deffinately higher in the front thus it got the 4 ish deg with no shims . Still haven't done it yet. Just no dam time !

So I was on a detour the other day due to construction and happened across this 85 K20. 6.2 diesel Th400 208 .etc. Looks ugly as heck but look further and this things rock solid.

There's none of these left up here in any kind of restorable condition.

Turns out this one came up from pieces from Fl. Rock solid all over. The bed has been punched in at some point in the left rear corner and has a bunch of bondo in it. That's better than rust tho

So I took a chance. Truck had been in a lean to for almost 10 years . Started and driven around farm on occasion. I bought it as is where is and took a chance. The guy was planning on building it some day so he did all the mechanical. Brakes , front end , fluids and filters etc. Got it home ans took the cap to the dump. Spent abt 3 hrs with the hotsy . Threw in a few batts and off we went . Runs ok. Has a miss on the drivers side bank. The more I run it the better it gets so I assume a cranky injector. The oil cooler lines blew off also. Bypassed for now.

That's abt all I have in mind for it for now. I'm just trying to get a good look at what I have. Got lots of little stuff working now. Need to take the dash out to see why oil pressure gauge is pegged and the voltage gauge reads lower than voltage actually is . I will get a exh on it soon then I can go,put some miles on it and see what I really have .

Haha yeah sounds about how most of the ones around here look too, took me awhile to get mine, suppousedly came from down south. The underneath looks flawless yet. The salt they put on the roads wrecked most of the square bodies long ago.

It was the white zig-zag pattern down the side that made me think of it. Looks like the vinyl wrap started peeling off.

Very nice. I like the square bodies. Very true they are not very plentiful up here that haven't been hit hard with the rust. Good score!

Almost no squares left where I live, only 2 lately were mine, one went out of town and sold the 86 shortbox to a young fellow as his 1st project...ever, so couldn't say no to a future truck guy.

So I came across this truck the other day . A guy I worked with years ago had it . I had plans for my 6.0 LS and a single turbo . When I went to look at it I was so,disappointed . He had left it sitting in his back, yard on the grass for the last 6 years . Was so nice years ago . Just shot underneath . Cab mounts , floors etc . Junk . It will make a great parts truck tho for the k 20. I better get a thread started for that thing

Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.

Looks like you got a lot of great parts between the two of them. A complete parts truck would be way better than looking at single parts to buy. Wish I could have done this. Great score :metal:
If you buy anymore I'll know where to get parts for mine ;)

Re: My 56 6bt 4X4 build.

Looks good, I've got the fever too, cant beat a good parts pickup! I get some grief from friends and family with all these parts pickups I bring home getting ready for my project. I should have some extra stuff to sell or barter with when or if I ever get done.

Nice new to you parts rig! That still looks nice compared to the stuff setting down here. Turbo LS? You have the same issues I have I think. LMAO!

Ever since the rear frame fell out of the wife's 6.0 l burb I have needed to,put that 6.0 somewhere. I haven't done a efi standalone swap before so I thought it would be a good fun learning project . Check out sloppy mechanics on you tube. These guys are building 10 sec cars on junkyard parts and kraft dinner budgets. My kind of people for sure. Can you imagine running 10's in a ford fairmont with no cage and no c clip eliminators . Once would be enuf I think . Lol.
