We used to say at work " just look for the trail of tools and you'll find the boss."

Re: 1941 project fenix
Are my eyes playing tricks on me, or are there holes in the bed sides at the back of the truck? What would they have been for??????????

Re: 1941 project fenix
Looks good in the daylight! I have a rubber isolator for the radiator in my Camaro, patiently waiting in a tool box. I made one when I couldn't find it. Haha, I feel your pain!

Re: 1941 project fenix

Re: 1941 project fenix
I am a little mystified how john and I could BOTH look in that drawer over and over, at least 3-4 times each. I said "here is where I last saw it" so thats where we centered our search.
not to get too off tangent but I think there is a connection to the physical world we dont understand yet, between our brains and matter. For that brake pedal part just to materialize out of no where, with no explanation, literally laying on the floor of the truck 10 inches from where it should be installed... Other things are like this too, my wife has a serious problem with technology, anything mechanical. I cant count how much stuff she has just, broken! with no explanation. I read about the BMW that won the 1939 Mille Miglia, there were two drivers and the course was a loop so the drivers could take turns on the 1000 mile course, but the first driver was waved on to keep going at the first change, then again, and again. The chief engineer explained to the (chagrined) second driver, who didnt get to drive at all, that "the machine is a precision piece, maybe you press the pedal this way where he presses it that way, and the combination of presses will make it weaken and break". Maybe that is what is happening when my wife borrows my car for the first time in 3 years and brings it back completely broken. Quote:

Re: 1941 project fenix
finished (mostly) the bed floor, came out nicer than I expected. I may dump some water seal on it, or maybe some used motor oil. I should have made two boards 6" and the center board 5", but hindsight is 20/20. I like the mini board actually. it was 2" before I rabbited it haha.

I have a decision to make, I have 2 pairs of caps, a 62-63 pair and a 64 pair. do I get two more, and of which? do I leave it different on each side? https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4353/...f3f0cae5_b.jpgIMG_6891 (1) by Joe Doh, on Flickr https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4335/...6230ee27_b.jpgIMG_6892 (1) by Joe Doh, on Flickr |
Re: 1941 project fenix
Both look good. I prefer the top picture, I'd say +2 of those.
|
Re: 1941 project fenix
:agree: I think the top pair fits the truck more.
|
Re: 1941 project fenix
Top pair.
|
Re: 1941 project fenix
Bed looks perfect!!! First hub cap.
|
Re: 1941 project fenix
looks great. Id like to see no cap and beauty ring. I like bare rims also. I like top cap better than bottom. Cedar bed looks fantastic.
|
Re: 1941 project fenix
yeah I think I will pull the caps off, might suit the truck better
so in perfect form the truck decided to be a problem. again. The screws that held the cowl vent linkage to the dash were rusty and I wasnt very patient taking it apart, so I just buzzed the heads off. but to put it back together I needed the rest of the screws out. I cut them flush and used vice grips, penetrant, and some heat and got them almost all the way out. and the spotweld holding the linkage to the cowl broke. *sigh* https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4391/...c47c8f0d_b.jpgIMG_6894 by Joe Doh, on Flickr quickly fixed. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4410/...bc0ec35e_b.jpgIMG_6895 by Joe Doh, on Flickr dash reassembled https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4369/...654684fe_b.jpgIMG_6896 by Joe Doh, on Flickr I thought maybe the Vintage Air controls would fit the two center dash holes and sure enough they did. I peeled the lables off the control panel and stuck em on https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4393/...8f9c351f_b.jpgIMG_6898 by Joe Doh, on Flickr cleaned up https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4428/...20652f85_b.jpgIMG_6902 by Joe Doh, on Flickr I think you guys are right about these hubcaps. I think on really narrow wheels that stick out in the center a bit they would be perfect, but not these wider wheels, they look like passenger car wheels. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4337/...7958f0f1_b.jpgIMG_6903 by Joe Doh, on Flickr https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4355/...18f47fe4_b.jpgIMG_6904 by Joe Doh, on Flickr I dont even much like these either. I think the bare center with rings is in the future https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4434/...0a3e4831_b.jpgIMG_6914 by Joe Doh, on Flickr https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4404/...21ce304f_b.jpgIMG_6916 by Joe Doh, on Flickr https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4386/...587da85f_b.jpgIMG_6921 by Joe Doh, on Flickr and because photerberkert got rid of the rest, here is a reminder from whence we came https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4385/...88bcd062_b.jpgIMG_1765_zpsey8zgpvk by Joe Doh, on Flickr |
Re: 1941 project fenix

I was trying to get to a second spot before the sun fell behind the hill, but didnt make it in time, you can see the sun JUST over where I was. oh twell. tomorrow maybe I will scrub off the blue and try again. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4414/...265c633b_b.jpgIMG_6983 by Joe Doh, on Flickr https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4437/...89acc75f_b.jpgIMG_6985 by Joe Doh, on Flickr https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4369/...5f06eb2d_b.jpgIMG_6986 by Joe Doh, on Flickr https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4393/...b18fe683_b.jpgIMG_6988 by Joe Doh, on Flickr https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4432/...b5587b99_b.jpgIMG_6989 by Joe Doh, on Flickr drove it all over hell and creation most of the day, my impressions are: the oil pressure gauge quit between when I first got the truck started and now, I think from when I tried to take the cluster apart. I could not figure out how it was suppose to come apart so I quit the temp gauge goes up and down, I think I have a big air bubble in the system, I havent been able to hook up the heater valve yet so I think the heater is the culprit. I got some vacuum lines and tees today. the poor running at idle WAS the bad gas. I put 8 gallons in it first thing and it runs amazing now. the overdrive works! when I drove the truck home as an s10 I never heard it drop into overdrive. I figured out that with the broken brake switch it would never go into overdrive. with the new brake switch it hits 4th gear around 40mph and locks up the torque converter shortly after. the brake lights get stuck on, I need to adjust the switch to pedal distance. the right front turn signal is very weak. I checked my wiring today, everything is good, so its either the bulb or the truck wiring. I dont know how anyone with a crank out front windshield would ever need air conditioning. that breeze is freaking GLORIOUS I need to get the rear fenders tied to the running boards. right now driving with the gap it is a bit like shaking a bag of hammers, very noisy. everyone loves it. I put gas in it and barely escaped the gas station. if I had a nickel for every thumbs up I would have 50 cents. Learned a bunch on this one, lesson number one is never look a gift donor in the mouth. replacing literally every fastener was devastating to my motivation. |
Re: 1941 project fenix
Joe
I don't know if it is possible, but maybe some "baby moon" hub caps? Just a thought. I think this one is a keeper? Fun fun fun project to watch, strong work.. Keep on keepin on NC |
Re: 1941 project fenix
just looks killer. congrats on gettin this one back on the road.
|
Re: 1941 project fenix
Well that turned out amazing I love the whole truck. The list of bugs to fix is quite small nothing major. I don't have a crank out windshield but the cowl vent is amazing, why did they ever stop using them? So good to hear you had fun driving it all over the place, it's a great feeling. Congrats.

Re: 1941 project fenix
:agree: Truck came out great looking.

Re: 1941 project fenix
yep..agreed..looks great....I like it better without hubcaps also

Re: 1941 project fenix
thanks guys, I love it.
little beeps is in half day preschool so this morning I got the charcoal canister mounted and the vacuum lines to the HVAC and cruise hooked up. with the vacuum line on the heater control valve, coolant was able to flow and even though today was 10 degrees hotter outside the temp never moved off dead center, so problem fixed. also, I tightened the TBI bolts a little and tightened the IAC a bit and the truck idles like a dream now, even stone cold. I drove another couple hours after dinner, got the park lights working (fuse was missing), fixed the brake light switch, its a joy on the road, even the highway is no sweat, 3.08 rear gears with overdrive means like 1700 rpm at 65 hahahahaha my friend OG Nic came by and we had a good talk about the old times, we went and visited another guy just starting his AD. the weather is gorgeous, the truck is running flawless, it is a good time to be alive. |
Re: 1941 project fenix
I saw you changed your avatar and had to come over to take a look. Truck looks great! Sounds like you're having fun and sorting out the small stuff w/not too much issues. Congratz!

Re: 1941 project fenix
