Here’s the frame section cut out...it’s a little different then my first rendition. Note I am keeping the bottom section of the donor frame. The 3/4 ton frame height is 6 inches whereas the 1 ton frame is 7 inches. To use the original shackle mount, I’ll mount it to this bottom rail...using all original bolt holes.

Here’s where it’ll go.

Here’s a look from the inside of the frame. I’ll put some sort of support between the donor frame and the 1 ton frame...plus I’ll figure out how to incorporate a support to the trans crossmember.

That is a Great plan you have in place.
I am taking notes:mm:
Just my input.
Tack and fit inside of the frame rail 1st.
Cause the outside will be easier to grind shape and re-weld.

.

Thanks...sounds good.

Received my spacers recently. These are what you need if you want to put your “Bud” Dually style front wheels onto a 3/4 ton hub. They are STEEL, 2 3/4” deep, and these were ordered with factory 1/2” size studs. That way I’m not drilling out the 1967 2wd wheels. If you’re going to beat up the truck with off road stuff, then go with the 9/16” studs. Made in the USA. Check these guys out. I am a non-paid spokeman...heh heh

Wheel on. Nice spacing for steering components. I have mismatched locking differential hubs, so I’ll look into remedying that. I found it necessary to remove the locking hub to put on the spacers as there were bolt heads that exceeded the spacers inner diameter. No big deal.

Merry Christmas!

Hope you all are having a memorable time today! During a break in the action, I snuck out to give some attention to Dolly. I am prepping to tack in the drivers side and am cutting out the passenger side frame for the new insert. You know what?! It’s going to happen this week!...rolling the front axle in for a test fit is imminent!

After more festivities, I got out to the garage again...

I tacked in the donor 3/4 ton frame pieces on both sides and bolted up the rear shackle support for the purpose of testing the alignment.

When it’s all said and done, I’ll gusset the bottom flange as well as make a lower support brace that’ll go to the crossmember.

I located my hardware for the leaf springs and bolted them on. I left it a smidgeon loose, so I can locate both ends of the spring easier into the hangers. I’ll tighten it down for the roll test and alignment.

Man! I love the look of the bud wheel on the Dana 44. I can’t wait! I did a rough measurement of the front from outside to outside tread and came up with 69”. I then measured the rear end and came up with 81”. So, I’ll have a difference of 6” on each side comparing front to back...I don’t think that’s too bad...and nothing is going to change that anyway.

Merry Christmas!

Thank you...I’m trying to do it right. The thing that’s on my brain is the 3/4 ton donor frame portion and where I placed it on the Vertical plain. I should be ok. My thought about that was the vertical height difference of the K20 vs C30 and how the leaf spring would carry itself. I went with the 3/4 ton measurement since the Dana 44, the 4speed and transfer case all came from the same 3/4 ton donor vehicle.

Looks like I have the shackles going in the right direction, but I have to lengthen them for more clearance. I am thinking about 1 inch. These shackles are from LMC. If I put the shackle mount to the bottom of the frame, I would be done. Well, someone reading this won’t make the same choice “regarding its vertical position” when using a donor frame component, hopefully. I am glad I used the donor frame and shackle mount.

Spent time remedying my rear shackle situation. Here’s the test fit. The original distance center to center was about 4”. My new ones are 5” at the centers. Now the leaf spring should be approximately at factory settings. I certainly feel better about having some space in there at the bottom of the frame.

Because the original shackles had an embossed area on them, presumably for strength, I added a bead of weld for the same purpose.

Next step is to weld the frame, paint and then hang the leaf springs for good...hopefully.

Thanks...I am glad my hiccup with the shackle was short lived.
