Drove the beast to work in the AM. came home in the dark and lost both the low beams. People really like the high beams, i know cause they flashed their lights at me, a lot! Got home and checked the dimmer switch and all is ok, so in the AM I will start the wire tracing. This ought to be fun.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Thanks for the greatings! You will more than likely regreat it cause this is my first project truck and I know I will ask a ton of questions. The ride is a bomb, bad wiring, lots of body work needed, sloppy stearing, wiper that dont work and park in the up position, heated by the holes in the firewall, loud, but the good side is, it has a 350SB with a 2 speed powerglide that run, ok. I think I will try to write and photo the rebuild, but it will take some time as this and a Harley are the only transportation I have and like most of us money is tight, (girl friend, 2 dogs, a cat, and an Ex.) As far as the "child prodigy" thing goes it's just this Texas Air and lots of burbon.

Took the beast out on its maiden voyage yesterday...SWEEEEEET...lots of stuff left to d0...figure out all the vacuum lines and get it shifting properly...

Thought at first that tranny was leaking out the dust pan and was not to happy about that....BUT with a little more research i found that the oils pressure sensor wasnt screwed in tight enough and was leakin down into the pan..... BIG SIGH! We'll be drivin it daily soon....

HIGH FIVE!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I got the 63 rear suspension all finished up today. Installed ECE shock relocator kits. Built all new brake lines for the back half of the truck.

I also rigged up a temporary fuel tank so I could start the engine. Found bad deal. When I assembled the new engine into the truck, I forgot to change the throwout bearing. The original throwout bearing was the long one and my new clutch needs the short one. So, my clutch is stuck disengaged. Friday I will have to pull the trans and swap the bearing to the right one.

It's been almost 7 years and I finally started the old wore out bone stock 350........cough, cough.
Run it for about 20 minutes tonight and broke the cam in, motor sounds very, very, healthy.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

My '66 C20 used to do that once in a while. A couple of the wires to the dimmer switch would burn in two. I attributed it to my typical leaky windshield dripping water onto the dimmer switch all the time. I finally got that fixed.....then the engine locked up. :(

Loaded Jon C's big back window cab and some other items. Headed from KC to Alabama on Thursday night/Friday morning at 1:30 am. Twenty-one hours, round trip. Should be lots of fun.

Started installing new bucket seats in my 65 SWB SS. Made seat brackets out of 11 ga. 1-1/2 square tube and 1-1/2 x 1 rectangular tubing.

Next up is retractable seat belts..... then interior paint.

Happy Turkey Day Gang!

(and thanks to Markeb for his internet help with the seats)

Drove the farm truck for the first time today. I still need to finish the gas tank and install the seat, bleed brakes, align the front end and install the wheels. New wheels and powdercoated grille and bumpers are going to make the difference.

MarK bed wood and strips to be here some time next week.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Twenty years ago when I started goofing with old trucks, I would put Saddleman saddle blanket type seat covers on my trucks. They were very durable and lasted forever.

On this farm truck, I wanted to run one like I did back then. Everywhere I looked though, all I can find is thin versions of the old saddle blanket covers. Finally, I found a guy on ebay who makes them. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. It's at least the weight and thickness of the ones I bought in the 80s. The downside is that it has some funny corner flaps on the front sides of it. The girlfriend says she will sew them down for me.

The seat is a 73-87 Suburban middle seat I think. It's a bit narrower than most bench seats, allowing a bit of room between the edge of the seat and the doors. I spent some time lowering the brackets even more. I like my seats real low.

I changed the oil on my '46 for the first time since I've owned it. Good thing I did because it was BLACK! Whoever the A-Hole was that put the oil filter on last time put it on SO FRIGGIN TIGHT, I destroyed the filter; well, I caved it in with my filter wrench and broke the wrench in doing it! Anyway, its belly is full of nice clean oil now. NEXT...

Kevin at times I get exhausted just reading all the accomplishments you get done in one day! Very impressive. Your truck looks great. Looking forward to seeing it with the powder coated parts.

My big truck adventure today was pulling the car cover off and taking a 15 minute drive to make sure the STA-BIL got circulated up to the carb.

Once again, I am not able to download photos because my Sprint MiFi card can't keep the connection long enough...note to everyone, don't give Sprint a dime of your money...this and their other phone services are terrible. I can't wait to be done with my contract!

Anyway, I left Kansas City at 8:30 pm on Thanksgiving evening and drove 655 miles in 11 hours to Moulton, AL, to deliver the big back window, A/C cab to Jonathan Cross. I arrived at 7:30 am, took a few hour power-nap, drove to his place, unloaded, chatted about trucks for a while and headed back to KC. I just walked in the door at 12:00 midnight. 1,330 miles and 21.5 hours of driving in the last 27.5 hours. I should sleep good tonight.
