I also ordered a small 2" Dragon Digital Tach that im going to mount in the cluster in the blank spot.......Going to have to do some adjusting but im pretty sure im going to get it to work

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

sweet!!! yeah my dad is kind of leaning to getting a newer radio in the truck which I'm okay with, but it looks sweet if it comes in today take a picture of it man!!

Nice nice take pictures when that gets here too haha. Yeah when I had mine wired in my truck it wasn't to hard to install actually just time consuming thats all. I feel like me and you are at the same pace haha which makes me feel better cause I know someone is going through the struggles I have too.

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

I have a nice stereo in it but i got fed up with it because the faceplate wiggles and when i press the button half the time it turns off so I said F it....Got this unit off ebay for $50 and its HD! So I went with it....

Yeah, Ive done car stereo installs a lot in my life so the task itself was easy but i re-wired everything. Installed kick panels, ran-monster speaker wire, installed Big Blocks rear corner 6x9 brackets, put a new sub in and re-wired the amp completely with a ground loop isolator to get the engine noise out, ran a fresh memory wire direct to the batter and even re-ran the power for the amp....I also mounted the CD player directly to the dash and cut the dash bezel where it will fit over the radio so when i need to remove the bezel itself i dont have to remove the radio... LOL

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

The tach I bought... If my calculations are right this should fit perfectly in the cluster with some minor adjustments. Ill have to cut a hole in the metal top but the angle should be perfect to fit in the little hole on the cluster bottom left....So we shall see

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

I like the set up you got in your truck speakers wise, I would do some subs but I'm a tad bit on the tall side lol

So I'm probably going to put in some kick panels and going to probably about 4-6 6x9's put them behind the seat to give it some stereo power and of course install all new speakers in it, and then a new radio too. I'm just not sure how to put one in on my truck.

The gauge looks awesome hope it fits and can't wait to see what it looks like, hopefully idk yet i'll go back to visit the beast and start sanding down the driver side front fender and get it primed up and start getting it ready for paint slowly.

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

Im 6ft and the sub I bought to replace the old one is a shallow mount and the box is only 4" deep on the bottom... It fits perfectly and allows me to push the bench all the way back...:)

77ChevySharkBite 11-26-2012 03:56 PM

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

I dont like shallow mounts at all no offense, but I've heard good and bad and just rather put some speakers to have back there and put it you know? Plus I have subs in my DD and truthfully I actually want to kind of enjoy the exhaust noise with this truck.

JRANGER 11-26-2012 04:01 PM

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

lol I hear ya...I didnt want a ton of bass but just enough to enjoy the stereo thats why i went shallow mount lol

I use to use competition stuff and actuall still have a set of 2200 watt audiobahns in my spare room lol

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

lol yeah, the exhuast thats on my truck man its music to my ears honestly couldnt ask for a better sound truthfully.

Dman thats crazy yeah i've had quiet a few different sets of subs in my time, I started out with 1 12 Pioneer, 2 12 kickers, 2 12 JL w3v3, and now 2 15 kicker always said I would never buy some 15's cause of noise but I must say I do love them lol

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

found out some good news, the starter might not be bad could of just lost ground because no gauges are even working not even my tach so we'll see i'm hopefully going to get under it today.

JRANGER 11-26-2012 04:34 PM

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

Re: Project 78 High Sierra

lol yeah see thats something I can't vouch to, because I have no clue where it is, none the less where to even begin to look at.

Funny thing happened my positive terminal had come a little too loose and caused it to not crank, but now it's pouring out fumes and back firing I think definitely not running heathly that's for sure

This is a High Sierra 1/2 ton with HD suspension out of the factory....Not exactly sure what that means as far as it goes but i guess that was part of it

I'll say it like this I have a buddy that helped me with my power steering pump, hardly ever worked on a vehicle in his life and he helped me install it not so much about the knowledge though that's nice it's more about willingness
