You would be happier with the vents at the highest point on the dash and at the ends of the dashboard also .

I imagine there’s a reason factory vehicles have them at the top. I plan on putting the other 2 near the top on the ends of the dash. I’ll have to see if I have room for the ductwork to change the location of my 2 in the center console. Can always weld the holes up:hh:

So I decided to make the center console removable. Welded nuts to strips then welded those to the back of the console. Also finished the placement of the vents and welded up the previous holes. I would of liked to put the outer 2 all the way to the ends, but I need a flat surface. So this is where they are going to be  Reworked the plenum for the last time… hopefully. Going to start finish welding the dash tomorrow.

Thanks! I know… it’s been about -10* here for about a week. 20* today and it feels like a heat wave. Typical January this far north.

final assembly and future tinkering, i think that waterfall being removable will be money

So the big brown truck brought me a wire harness. So I’ve been tinkering with that for 2 days. Still looks like a mess, but everything is in place and temporarily run. Figured I’d work out as much under dash wiring before I weld in the dash!

Dash is welded in. No problem getting the vintage air unit in. I have a good start on the bed wood.

Nice metal work on the console and dash extension. The curves in the steel are nice, and and they blend together perfectly. That's tricky stuff to do. The entire box is looking pretty darn sharp too!

Thanks, after the box and seatbelts I’m going to start laying body filler.

Finished up all the bed wood and strips. 2nd picture is a sample of how I plan on staining the wood. Should look petty sharp with the dark blue body paint. Finally welded in the cowl too.

Looks very nice and I agree the wood stain should match the truck perfect. It's amazing how much hardware there is in the bed of one of these trucks. Steve

No question about that Steve. I think the strips alone have 49.

Love it!!! What did you use for that stain? I’m also thinking off black stained wood for mine

It’s just minwax water based stain. I’m using semi-transparent because I still want to see the grain. I choose to use pine for the same reason. Oak grain is much finer. First pictures of the wood has one coat and the last picture has two. I’m planning on one coat. I don’t want to loose the grain in the dark stain.

Spent some time in the basement today. Outside temperature was only in the single digits so not a good day to heat the garage. So I got all the bed wood stained. Next is the clear.

Nice, I like it. I was thinking about doing pine, and burning it with a torch.

Thanks guys. I’m really happy with the way it’s coming out. I believe the burnt wood process is called shousugi ban. If I were going black I’d definitely do it! Hope it turns out bigglass. I’ll probably start clear coating tomorrow.

Burnt pine is very stripey... if you want that look, then pine is definitely the right choice! If you want a consistent dark tone, a hardwood will burn more evenly. It's a good choice though, naturally weather-resistant!

Thanks guys. I put the first coat of clear on the bottom and didn’t like how much blond wood was still showing. So I applied a second coat of stain. Now it may be too dark. :dohh: Some days I see it and I like it, then the next day its too dark. I may now understand how my wife looks at clothes  I put the second coat on the back today. In the end it should look good no matter how fussy I get!

this one takes a lot of will power ... i re-did a bathroom and got the drywall JUST right, only to have the wife gouge it in a few spots while painting. drove me up the wall! but no one ever noticed with the room finished, even i stopped noticing after a few weeks, and it simply didn't matter. since then i really try to step back on some things and think "will anyone but me (and my buddies who nitpick everything just to give me sh!t) notice?"
